Mileage when the problem started
Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2017 Chevrolet Camaro owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that the steering wheel was shaking abnormally with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer on three occasions, where an unknown diagnosis was provided. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. While driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was jump-started, but the failure persisted. Upon further investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V175000 (Steering). The contact was concerned about driving the vehicle. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
The vehicle has repeatedly lost electrical power while driving. During one incident at approximately 50 mph, the vehicle's electronics shut off and power steering assist stuttered/lost assist for several seconds, causing reduced vehicle control. During another incident while turning/in a turning lane, the engine and electronics shut off and the vehicle had to be restarted. Afterward, the vehicle struggled to restart and displayed a warning to drive cautiously due to power steering loss. The vehicle also has recurring hot-start/no-start symptoms and electrical loss after shutting the engine off. Based on my research, GM Bulletin 19-NA-052 appears to describe a related condition on 2016-2019 Chevrolet Camaro 6.2L vehicles where circuit 1 may short to ground at the starter heat shield, causing loss of electrical power or failure to start, with repair involving the starter solenoid cable. …
My vehicle dies while going 60 MPH or at red lights, creating a dangerous situation in traffic or on the highway. At times when yielding it feels like I've been hit by another vehicle from behind, the transmission does not downshift normally, and the TSB (see attached) proves that General Motors knew about this issue and did not notify customers or recall the vehicle for repairs. I have 2 issues with my vehicle and both issues remain unresolved even after utilizing the power train warranty. My vehicle was taken to the dealership for repairs multiple times, the "check engine" light was on the vehicle, no one checked it, and General Motors did not honor its Power Train Warranty Obligations, "the defects remain unresolved". …
While idling out of a driveway on Friday, 8/25/23, there was a warning on the dash that stated "low oil pressure, shut off vehicle immediately." I immediately shut the vehicle off within seconds of seeing this warning and towed the vehicle home. I've read that these vehicles-Camaro ZL1 are notorious for failed oil pumps. I have babied this vehicle and do not use it as a daily driver. I only take it out a few times a year and have only 18,000 miles on it. The vehicle is in stock condition and has not been modified which blows my mind that this would even occur on such a well taken care of vehicle that is so expensive and supposed to be the top the line. Of course the dealer was unhelpful due to it being pass what they consider warranty timeframe. I am hopeful that GM will assist in any way possible being that I believe GM installed faulty oil pumps on these expensive vehicles. …
There are two primary concerns with this vehicle that, after further investigation, appear to be commonly experienced issues. While driving, the vehicle shudders unexpectedly and intensely, then the issue spontaneously resolves. Upon contacting the dealership, I was informed that this is a recognized problem. The service representative explained that moisture was accumulating in the transmission fluid due to a factory defect, resulting in the sporadic vibration. I was advised that a transmission flush using Mobile One would rectify the problem, but this measure proved ineffective. The dealership is now suggesting that the torque converter may be the cause. Separately, the rear window has detached from the convertible top. Despite my efforts to seal the gap, water still seeps into the vehicle during rainfall.
After having the car for a year with regular maintenance and service, out of nowhere car was giving electrical problems that was making my car battery die and the ABS brake system giving out completely to the point where the vehicle has no brakes at all & engine failure due to cylinder #1 no compression, car kept giving codes p0300 , C0299 , B1517 , notice there's an service bulletin from GM NO. Pi1178F is know as a common problem for LTG engines, also the only way I found out that the engine was damaged when I took the vehicle to the dealership for diagnostic and was told that one of the Cylinders had no compression which had came down the line that an Piston ring had internally damaged my engine, vehicle has 145K and was running smoothly until sudden electrical problems.
Shudder in the transmission. My camaro shudders between 40 and 50 mph. It had a recall and was taken in for the repairs. It was a transmission fluid flush and a change in the fluid. Something like that. The problem is shudder isn't fixed it was for a while but its back. There's definitely something still wrong with this. Is it causing the car more damage? I believe GM should repair all the recalled vehicles right! This is an issue and a huge nuisance. Shudder problem is still there!
Thermostat is not lasting to recommend mileage. Gm states that this part start going bad at 100,000 miles. My vehicle had 40,000 miles when my thermostat went out. I looked online and this been an ongoing problem. For Chevy Camaro owners.
There have been multiple problems with the check engine light .the car vibrating i have had this car serviced multiple times for the same thing and now my transmission needs to be rebuilt which this car has less than 50,000 miles
Car developed stabilitrack message on dashboard, check engine light on, engine misfire, reduced power, and intermittent no start,( like dead battery) after let sit for some time, all symptoms go away. Car was taken 2 times to dealership for service, at first time they replaced engine lifters, at second visit they were unable to duplicate concern. Car had continued to show same symptoms. Contacted general motors customer service, and they opened a case # [redacted] they stated will call back. Days later cr acted again, no power, engine misfire, check engine light on and no start condition, and finally cached on fire on 01/10/2020. All symptoms were present when car moving and when charging gas for example had to shut engine off, it will not restart, like battery was dead, called road assistance triple a, and diagnosed battery to be fine.they stateted car has electrical issues.
