My driver instrument module began to fail, on and off, now it is completely off. I called Volvo because of the high cost of repair 1400.00, they offered me 200.00 very quickly almost too quick, sounds to me as if they know this is a safety problem and are trying to keep it on the down low. I plan to make another call to them and report the problem to every agency I can. I have no idea if my airbags are working, brakes, cooling system, how much gas I have, mileage is not calculating properly nothing works.
The vehicles left and right side brake lights do not illuminate when the pedal is depressed. I replaced both of the bulbs and they still do not work. There are many additional owners with the same problem according to Volvo forums on the internet. The vehicles information system continually reads that there is an airbag problem, even though the airbags have never been activated/deployed. The instrument panel and dash lights flash on and off randomly.
The key came out of the ignition while still in drive with the engine off. The last incident resulted in the vehicle rolling backwards and crashing. Vehicle was totaled from the crash. Vehicle was inspected on 04-12-05 by a Volvo dealership representative, who confirmed this was a problem, but declined to fix the problem.
I was recently told my 2001 v79xc needed ball joints, then sway bars and someone else said struts! Also: I have had the car diagnosed, the system reported throttle module errors and electircal or circuit problems; throttle module cleaned, then replaced; headlights replaced 3 times (wiring causes shorts); gas filter replaced two junes in a row gas propelled out of the tank back at me upon pumping (something about air intake line was clogged), the brackets underneath the car are totally rusted not stainless steel! I had the cooling fan replaced, car overheated into the red! I too have had little time to enjoy my car. The e brake sticks in the winter, because the coating on the lines/cables is cracked, broken/burned due to improper suspension. My sun roof, interior lights and rear hatch door works intermittently in cold weather. …
The electronic throttle module (etm) has failed twice on my 2000 Volvo V70XC. The first time it was still under warranty, the second was about 17K miles after the first. Both times it failed while driving on highway at high speed. Both times engine stalled in traffic. Both times managed to get to shoulder, restart, and get home with car alternately surging and stalling the whole way. Both times had my preschool age twins in the car and didn't feel it safe to stop on the shoulder to wait for help. Also, would have had a difficult time getting them home safety (in their car seats). Then had car towed to dealer for repair. First failure - car mileage was 41,222, repair date was 6/25/03. Quote from annapolis Volvo service receipt: "ets lamp comes on and vehicle surges badly, almost stalled. Internal fault inspected and found codes ecm903f/904d/9150/9160/904c. Tested and replaced elec. …
I have a 2000 Volvo v70 cross country wagon. The problem began in December 2005. Car starts but immediately dies, starts but dies, starts but dies and then, finally, catches. This has happened on about 15 occasions since dec 10, 2005 and takes about 3 to 6 tries before engine catches. Car surged once while on the highway. I had the computer replaced in jan 2005 (before this problem emerged), the starter motor replaced (June), the thermostat replaced (January 2006) and recently the catalytic converter replaced (latter covered under warranty). I have only 75,000 miles on this car and it's beginning to feel like a lemon. The service dealer put me off when I stated that it must have something to do with the electronic throttle module. I don't have all the old parts but maybe either the thermostat of the catalytic converter. …
The electronic throttle system warning light came on. There was intermittent loss of power. The dealer identified the following throttle failure codes, 914f, 91b7, 9150. They replaced the throttle, cleaned pvc system and upgraded the ECM software. Total cost was $1270.52. At the same time the brake light system failed. There was no warning light. The entire system, all three lights did not illuminate. The dealer replaced the electronic brake light switch. Cost $124.08.
My 1999 Volvo v70 xc suddenly lost power and throttle control while trying to pass another car. Luckily no accident occurred in what were extremely hazardous circumstances. I had to pull off the road and then coast downhill to find a safe area in which to park. The etc warning light came on and remained on. I was unable to regain power and the car had to be towed 20 miles to pioneer valley Volvo in south deerfield, massachusetts. The car has not yet been repaired.
