What owners report
While driving, the vehicle developed uneven acceleration and an audible metallic rattling/buzzing sound. Shortly after, the engine locked up, stalled, and jerked the car to a stop while in traffic. A Volkswagen dealership has confirmed the engine failed and locked up, at 26,127 miles, but could not yet identify the specific internal components which failed. They indicated the engine cannot be turned over and the oil is full of metallic flakes. This created substantial danger to myself and others as the vehicle suddenly died in traffic, not only losing power, but suddenly jerking to a stop. Fortunately I was slowing down and not in an intersection, or on a highway or crossing train tracks. …
After 3500 miles my radiator came loose and pushed a lower coolant hose into the alternator belt, chewed through the hose and all the coolant leaked out. Now my car is sitting at a dealer lot awaiting the replacement hose which is on back order in the entire country with no ETA. After this incident I realize this is a common issue(posts on Facebook & Reddit) and for whatever reason VW doesn't seem to be addressing this issue. At the very least they should be shipping a large shipment of these hoses to the US so customers can get back on the road ASAP.
This only happens when the clutch is fully in and throttle is not engaged (coasting down hills, stop signs) the engine shuts off but all of the electronics stay on. I lose power steering/throttle and rpms are 0. None of the engine lights come on like the car stalled. When the car turns back on, it seems to struggle/stutter. Several of the times I have attempted to restart it, it took a try or two to crank and me adding some throttle. I ran my code reader several times when this happened and no actual codes have been tripped and no check engine light on if I continually add some throttle and rev the engine while at a stop with the clutch in the issue does not happen it hasn't happened while the engine or the outdoor temperature was cold. …
I began experiencing the engine stall from the day I purchased the vehicle. The engine keeps stalling as I come to a stop. It happens with the clutch pedal fully depressed. It happens without any warning. There is no check engine light or other warnings. When I attempt to restart the engine, I sometimes have to press the engine start button multiple times until I get a response. When the engine does restart, the idle sometimes fluctuates and shuts off. It happens whether I'm driving on a local street or a highway.
Rough idle on start. RPM is not maintaining to keep the engine running. After a few try, it starts ok and drive off the parking lot, but the engine dies after about 10 seconds over 30mph. It feels like gasoline is not igniting corretly. Scanned Error Code P0171: System Too Lean Bank 1 P0190: Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor A Circuit Dealership can't replicate the issue and find the issue. Could be related to Fuel System Recall.
On jan 29, 2019, I purchased the car new, from a dealer in south florida with approximately 13 miles on the odometer. The vehicle has a manual transmission. After driving the vehicle less than one mile from the dealer, the vehicle stalled at a stop light. At the time, the vehicle was stationary, in neutral, with the clutch petal in the fully raised position, and had been idling for about 10 minutes prior to the occurrence. I restarted the car and within a few seconds, the car stalled again under the same conditions. I returned to the dealer to have the car inspected. On the short drive back, the car stalled 3 additional times under similar circumstances. The dealer couldn't find any explanation for the stalling. Unable to replicate the issue, I drove the car for approximately 150 more miles. On February 1, 2019, the issue recurred, again at a stoplight under similar conditions. …
On 8/23/2026, my vehicle experienced severe vibrations and unusual noise after load crack sound while driving. We discovered that the factory motor mount (metal arm) was completely Brocken off (picture in attachment) and required immediate replacement to ensure the safe operation of the vehicle. Also bolt thread in the engine support was damaged.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 Volkswagen GTI. While driving, the vehicle lost power and accelerated slower than normal. In addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. When the vehicle was powered off and restarted, the failure remained. The contact was a certified mechanic and stated that he used Volkswagen factory software to diagnose the vehicle. The contact found failure codes pertaining to the loss of camshaft synchronization and failure of cylinder two. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.
