On June 7th, I experienced a concerning incident involving the lane-keeping assist feature in my car while driving on Pinehurst Dr. in Aptos. As I was going around a corner just after the elementary school, I had forgotten to turn off the lane assist feature. Since there is no permanent way to disable this feature, when another car approached from the opposite direction, the lane assist system kicked in aggressively. I had slightly drifted too close to the center lane, and the system forcefully jerked the steering wheel to the right. This sudden and aggressive correction nearly caused me to hit a teenager riding a bicycle on the right side of the road. If I had only one hand on the steering wheel, the lane assist could have easily caused the car to veer off the road or collide with other vehicles, pedestrians, or in my case, the bicyclist. …
Steering
The contact owned a 2023 VINFAST VF 8. The contact stated that while driving at unknown speeds, the steering wheel automatically maneuvered to the right direction, however, the contact was able to regain control of the steering wheel and maneuvered into the correct lane. The contact stated that the failure recurred where the lane assist was turned on by default and it would automatically move the steering wheel. On another occasion, the contact stated that a coworker was driving at unknown speeds with his family, the vehicle crashed into a pole, then a tree where it came to a stop. The vehicle then caught on fire. The contact mentioned that during the impact to the pole, the pole fell down. The air bags deployed. There were 4 occupants during the crash, the driver, the front passenger occupant, and two children seated in the rear of the vehicle. All occupants were deceased. …

Vehicle drive system fault: This issue has happened to me 2x in my personal car and 1x in the loaner vehicle that Vinfast gave me. When this happens, the vehicle shuts off. You can't put the car in drive or reverse. You have to leave the car, wherever it is, walk a good distance away& wait for about 15mins. The first time, I was pulling into a spot at a grocery store & and car died in the middle of the aisle. I was blocking all traffic. Luckily after 4 mins the car was able to go into N and I got pushed into a parking spot. The second time was with the loaner car, I started to back up and the car died. This time, I had to walk in the rain to a store down the street and wait for the car to "disconnect from the key fob" and wait 15 mins. The third time I was in my personal car and I was moving. I slowed down to make a turn and the car slammed on the brakes and died. …
