Tl* the contact owns a 2011 Toyota 4runner. While driving approximately 20 MPH, the contact rear ended another vehicle and the air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained no injuries. A police report was filed. The contact stated that the vehicle was still drivable. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously serviced per an unknown recall at Toyota of north miami (16600 nw 2nd ave, miami, fl 33169, [phone]). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
We were hit head on in a collision on 5/5/2017 and the airbags did not deploy. The front and side bags of the other vehicle deployed. The vehicle we were in did not. It was unprovable but the airbags didn't deploy. We were driving at approximately 60 MPH on a 4 lane highway.
A recall was issued for the Takata airbags in my 2011 Toyota 4runner and I was advised in the notification that no passengers should be allowed to travel sitting in the front passenger seat of my vehicle. I shared this information with my son and daughter-in-law and they will not allow my grandchildren to ride in my vehicle due to the reports that upon deployment the airbags cause metal fragments to disperse causing injury to include fatalities from the projectiles emitted from the deployment of the Takata airbags. There is no remedy for this issue. I have loss the use of my front passenger seat and the ability to transport my grandchildren. This issue must be remedy immediately. Please help! Best regards, [redacted] (formerly [redacted]).
Takata recall: have been waiting for over a year for a remedy. Have not been able to use the front passenger seat for all of that time. Have called Toyota directly on 03/08/17 (case # 1703082418) and contacted my local dealer on multiple occasions only to discover they still had no solution to the issue. Got tired of waiting and wanted to purchase a new vehicle that my family can ride in together. Went to trade in this vehicle on 07/01/17 and the dealer undercut my fair trade in price by $5,000 stating the outstanding recall was a danger to a future owner and that they couldn't sell the vehicle with a known safety hazard. Extremely frustrated that Toyota hasn't found a solution to this known issue for over a year. Now it's cost me thousands of dollars.
Toyota Takata recall and spiral cable assembly: 2011 Toyota 4runner horn stopped functioning. This vehicle, according to NHTSA, is affected by the Takata airbag recall. On sept 2, 2017, Toyota dealer diagnosed spiral cable assembly as cause of horn failure. Given the faulty spiral cable assembly as the cause of the horn failure and the apparent cause of the airbag malfunction, this faulty part raises two serious safety issues: no horn, potentially explosive airbag. Following the dealer service, we filed a concern with Toyota on sept 5, 2017. Toyota customer service insisted on sept. 12, 2017 that the vehicle is safe. We do not believe the vehicle is safe. The problem started while the car was in motion.
Takata recall. Notified in May of the problem with the passenger side airbag. Have made several calls to the dealer legacy Toyota, in tallahassee, florida on the status of receiving the replacement part. They cannot give a date on when the part will be received. I am in zone a which is supposed to have a high priority due to high temperatures and humidity. Significant propellant degradation May occur is projected at between 6-9 years. Your website says millions have been replaced so I wonder why I cannot get a replacement? Very frustrated because the vehicle cannot be operated.
Takata recall - local atlanta Toyota dealers are not offering use of a comparable vehicle at no charge until the replacement airbag is available, even though the recall involves a potential life-threatening hazard for the front passenger. It is necessary for me to have use of a vehicle with large cargo space and towing capability. What can be done to get Toyota to provide me with a 4runner or comparable vehicle until the defective airbag is replaced?
Takata recall. I'm very concerned that the 2011 4runner I purchased in July is involved in the recall and there is no remedy to fix it at this time? What are my other options? I don't want to ride in a car that is unsafe to drive. I was not given all the correct information during my hunt for a new car and am unsure how to proceed. The car originated from florida and was transferred to me in colorado through carmax.
Takata recall the problem with the air bags has not been resolved and it has been since May 2016. It is unreasonable that no solution has been found in this time period and I have been unable to use the front passenger seat for 6 months. I believe a rental car should be provided until the air bags have been corrected.
Tamara recall: I have looked it up and found that my vehicle has Takata air bags, yet there is no recall notification. From what I have researched the deployment of the bags could cause serious injury or possibly death. In my opinion a recall should be implemented asap

Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited.
