Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2018 Ram 2500 owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
The contact's family owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at 48-55 MPH with the vehicle hitched to a tow trailer transporting a vehicle, the rear driver's side wheel inadvertently detached, rolled away, and crashed into the front end of a vehicle that was driving on the opposite direction. The contact engaged the trailer brakes and the vehicle brake pedal to stop his vehicle. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. There were no injuries sustained. The contact stated as he was inspecting the rear driver's side wheel, he noticed that the wheel studs were missing. A police report was filed. The vehicle remained at the scene. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V398000 (WHEELS). The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000. …
Regarding the Safety Recall V06 / NHTSA 19V-021 Drag Link. This issue regarding the jam nuts on the drag link needs to be remedied. It calls for welding an adjustable part of the steering linkage rendering it non- adjustable when having the front end aligned in the future. Not to mention the effect of welding, potentially causing a problem with the integrity of the metal. The correct fix for this SAFETY issue is to REPLACE this steering linkage component, the entire Drag Link! And NOT a weld job on the steering linkage of all things! I am appalled that NHTSA approved such a thing. PLEASE revisit this issue and do the right thing. Require Chrysler (FCA US LLC) to REPLACE this defective part with the proper part. Note.... Chrysler is not welding the nuts on the drag links on trucks coming off the assembly line! They are coming off with proper, safe, adjustable drag links!
On 10/07/2022, I took the vehicle VIN number in reference for tire change at FIRESTONE Auto Care (440 S. Main St., Wichita, KS 67202-3720 - [316] 265-6659]). I also requested, wheels alignment and wheels/tire balance, and brake inspection. Upon those inspections, the technicians pointed out an IMPORTANT issue as follows: "IMPORTANT: This vehicle may be subject to a recall involving the toe adjuster. Search the internet for 'recall number 19V-021' for the latest information Under no circumstances should a weld from a recall repair be removed for any reason, including to perform an alignment. Removing the weld would remove a safety recall remedy that is currently in place., which would cause a serious vehicle safety issue. To adjust toe on a vehicle with a welded drag link in the WinToe procedure, choose 'select steering type' on the second tier of 'k-keys. …
The brake system and steering system are affected. Both are subject to open safety recalls that have not been fully resolved. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Unresolved brake and steering issues pose a serious safety risk, particularly when driving with my family. A failure or malfunction of either system could result in reduced stopping ability or loss of steering control, increasing the risk of an accident. Due to these unresolved safety concerns, I do not feel safe operating the vehicle. The issues are associated with acknowledged manufacturer recalls. However, my local dealership/manufacturing has failed to adequately respond or complete the necessary repairs, despite multiple attempts to address the problems. The vehicle has been presented to the dealership for recall-related concerns. …
I was on vacation with my family and pulled over to the side of the road to get something from the back and the service abs electronic light came up. it was intermittently coming on and off. it really dampened our trip because i have been stranded with electrical issues in this truck before. my family was scared the brakes were going to fail and we reduced our trips into the mountain areas we had planned. being not fully trusting of this very expensive vehicle i thought would take me anywhere i need to go i tried to sell it back to the dealer, i signed all the sale paperwork feeling like today was the best deal and they wouldnt give me the same deal the next day. only to be told i needed to pick the truck back up because of the brake system hydraulic control and brake system module being not availiable. so long story short. …
I haven't experienced an issue yet. A safety recall was finally issued to my 2018 Ram 2500 pickup truck in 2024. I had taken it to the local Ram dealership (Rairdon's Ram, Bellingham, WA). On two separate occasions for my truck throwing the following warning light, "Check Electronic Braking System". At the same time, traction control is deactivated, and cruiser control turns off, so if you have cruise control set, the warning light causes the cruise control to deactivate, and the truck immediately starts to slow down. This is a problem at highway speeds. The warning light also activates a chime that pings incessantly for several minutes and will continue to sound every 30 minutes while driving. Ram finally identified it as a safety issue, and issued a recall. However they stipulated there was no fix identified yet. …
The vehicle had multiple unresolved safety defects from the time of purchase. The radio and electrical system never functioned correctly and could not be repaired despite repeated dealer visits. The stabilizer bar failed and fell out while driving, causing loss of steering stability. The vehicle is currently subject to an open federal safety recall for ABS/ESC/traction control loss with no repair remedy available. These defects created a serious crash risk and caused loss of safe use of the vehicle. The manufacturer and authorized dealer failed to repair the vehicle.
I had a safety recall V06 performed on my 2018 truck. Three local shops refused to do an alignment saying they can not perform the alignment without having a steering wheel misaligned. I find steering wheel misalignment to be a safety issue. In critical situations you don't have a reference where your wheels are straight. I it hard to comprehend that welding an adjustable part on steering would be an approved permanent remedy by NTHSA. These welds are rusting and prompt to crack.
Having problems with my ABS Module antilock brakes system, took my truck to Dealership , and there respond was this part was in back order and no recall, its being 5 months .my issue is for the Safety of my Family and myself on the Road,I dont want to have and accident and get somebody Hurt or worse, and my family Im very concern of Driving this truck every day. need MFG to correct this PROBLEM.
I get a message that states Service air ride suspension immediately. After reading several ram forms it seems this is a big problem with these trucks. My airbags are completely inflated. I have not taken to the dealer because most of the forms I read says ram is aware of the problem but hasn't issued a recall.
