What owners report

This car completely shut down on a busy motorway and would not restart while blocking traffic. I called Porsche Auto service for a tow on a flatbed truck. They did not arrive for almost 5 hours while the car was dead standing still on a busy major intersection. Porsche has had this car in repair and have still not updated what caused the problem or scarier yet IF it will happen again. This car has less than 1400 miles and is only. 3 months old.

On December 24, 2023, my family and I were involved in a serious accident while driving our 2023 Porsche Taycan. I was making a left turn at approximately 10 mph when a 2009 Honda Fit, traveling in excess of 65 mph, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the left side of my vehicle. The impact was concentrated on the area around the front door, fender, and left-side charge port, causing over $60,000 in damage and rendering the vehicle a total loss. Despite the severity of the impact, the side curtain airbags failed to deploy. This malfunction significantly compromised the safety of my family, leading to a 60% tear in my left rotator cuff, which required surgery. The failure of the airbags exposed both me and my family to a greater risk of serious injury or death. The body shop recommended by the dealer, as well as the dealership itself, have both acknowledged this issue. …

While charging my 2023 Porsche Taycan 4S at an Electrify America station, white smoke began emitting from the front wheel/charging port area. The vehicle also produced a burning odor inside the cabin. I immediately stopped charging and unplugged the vehicle. The smoke ceased within approximately 1-2 minutes. The vehicle was towed to an authorized Porsche dealership. Initial explanation from the dealer was steam from when radiators heats-up, which is inconsistent with the conditions and prior use history. Upon further inspection, the dealership identified battery-related issues. Ultimately, I was told that 8 out of 10 battery cells were replaced. The vehicle was out of service for approximately one month. The dealership stated that the battery cell issue was not related to the smoke event, which is concerning given the timing and severity of the incident. …

On 3/26/23 my 2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo self-ignited in our garage and created a lithium fire literally incinerating itself and completely destroying 3 other cars, the garage and approximately 35% of our home. The resulting fire filled the home with smoke, soot and required us to leave the house immediately and we have yet to return. The car was not being charged at the time of the fire; the charging unit was stored in the truck anticipating the dealership's promise to pick up the car for repair (again) the very next day. It was a four alarm fire supervised by the Bloomfield Township Fire Department and Oakland County Sheriff's Department. My wife and daughter personally witnessed the origin of the fire. The flames came from the bottom of the driver's side wrapping over the top of the Porsche and igniting the garage and the other cars. All cars were a complete loss. …

The Porsche EV Charger started an electrical fire in the wall of my garage while charging on May 21st 2024. The charger melted as a result. On the way to take my car to the dealership the dash became very hot to the touch as well. Fast forward to today, my car is still at the dealership. They have contacted me and asked me to pick it up and return my loaner car. They cannot however provide me with a new charger for my car. Porsche has sent out new chargers as part of this recall but they don't have the software in place so the chargers are useless right now. Porsche will give $500 toward the purchase of a 3rd party charger but they told me that they will not accept any responsibility if the third party charger damages my vehicle in any way and they acknowledge that using the suggested 3rd party charger may void my vehicle warranty. …

The contact owns a 2021 Porsche Taycan. The contact stated that while driving 20 MPH, the vehicle began to shudder and then stalled as the "electrical system error, park vehicle in a safe place" warning message illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle failed again soon after restart. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to his home. The contact then called the local dealer and the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The next day, the contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V486000 (Engine and Engine Cooling, Electrical System) which was linked to the failure. Despite several attempts to repair the vehicle under the recall, the vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle remained in the dealer possession. While charging the vehicle at a reduced rate (30 amps out of a 40 amp maximum) there was a thermal event in the outlet box that the Mobile Charger Connect was plugged into. There were no witnesses to the event, but it was later noticed that the wall around the outlet was blackened and one prong of the plug had melted the housing of the plug along with the receptacle. The Mobile Charger Connect had previously shown a high temperature warning, so the operating current was reduced from 40 to 30 amps at the direction of service personnel at the dealership. The Mobile Charger Connect was plugged into the specified NEMA 14-50 receptacle that has been in use for the entire duration of ownership.
