What 2022 Porsche Taycan owners say
Electrical system all 37 →
On 3/26/23 my 2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo self-ignited in our garage and created a lithium fire literally incinerating itself and completely destroying 3 other cars, the garage and approximately 35% of our home. The resulting fire filled the home with smoke, soot and required us to leave the house immediately and we have yet to return. The car was not being charged at the time of the fire; the charging unit was stored in the truck anticipating the dealership's promise to pick up the car for repair (again) the very next day. It was a four alarm fire supervised by the Bloomfield Township Fire Department and Oakland County Sheriff's Department. My wife and daughter personally witnessed the origin of the fire. The flames came from the bottom of the driver's side wrapping over the top of the Porsche and igniting the garage and the other cars. All cars were a complete loss. …
The Porsche EV Charger started an electrical fire in the wall of my garage while charging on May 21st 2024. The charger melted as a result. On the way to take my car to the dealership the dash became very hot to the touch as well. Fast forward to today, my car is still at the dealership. They have contacted me and asked me to pick it up and return my loaner car. They cannot however provide me with a new charger for my car. Porsche has sent out new chargers as part of this recall but they don't have the software in place so the chargers are useless right now. Porsche will give $500 toward the purchase of a 3rd party charger but they told me that they will not accept any responsibility if the third party charger damages my vehicle in any way and they acknowledge that using the suggested 3rd party charger may void my vehicle warranty. …

The contact stated that during the failure there was a message which stated to turn off and restart the vehicle, while the vehicle was still being driven. The contact drove the vehicle home safely and then had the vehicle towed to a local dealer. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 3,500.
While the vehicle is in both Drive and reverse, the car randomly will shift itself into either neutral or park without warning. The first event occurred while in reverse and actively moving, the car shifted into neutral on its own. No warning lights or messages appeared. The following 2 incidents, while driving on city streets, at a stop sign in one instance and at a stop light in the other, the car shifted into park within seconds of the vehicle coming to a stop. Also, no warning lights or messages occurred. I have contacted my local Porsche dealer to see if there was any service bulletins or a know fix, and was informed that by the service advisor, that she believes this is normal operation because she has heard of it happening. …

Vehicle experienced a sudden, complete loss of motive power while driving in active traffic at night, creating an immediate crash hazard. The vehicle had just been picked up from an authorized Porsche Service Center approximately 12 hours prior (picked up between 11:00AM - 12:00 PM, failed at 11:09 PM) after undergoing a comprehensive 60K mile scheduled service and a mandatory manufacturer software recall campaign. Without warning, the vehicle completely stalled and dropped into an undriveable state. The driver's instrument cluster immediately illuminated two major critical alerts: "Transmission failure" and "Engine control error." Because the vehicle was stranded dangerously in live traffic, local police were dispatched to assist with safety and traffic control (Police Incident #[redacted]). …
