Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2000 Oldsmobile Alero owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
I have written previously about my 2000 Oldsmobile Alero, clearly from the earliest of complaints which I share with other owners, GM does not care about the problems from brakes, tires, intake gaskets, windows braking, blower motors going, no dipsticks for transmission lines, I could go on and on, the message I receive is through the list of complaints you don't investigate and assist in finding a solution and GM/Oldsmobile could give a ?!@#$% about the junk they produced and made millions on at the lack of safety for consumers. I pray that Oldsmobile steps up and admits they made defaulted cars when it came to the Oldsmobile Alero, and while many of us have probably already paid the cars payments off, the lease they could do is offer a $10,000 rebate to purchase another car. Heck perhaps I should contact the attorney generals of each state and my own attorney for a possible lawsuit. …
I bought my Oldsmobile Alero new in July of 2000. Within a few months after purchase I started taking it back to the dealer due to a grinding noise that would happen when I was driving at slower speeds or turning. The dealer couldn't find anything wrong, but suggested I May need new brakes. I was not satisfied with this response since the car was less than one year old and I don't drive any more than the average driver. I then started taking it to a closer dealer (this one was a GM dealer and not specifically Oldsmobile). After several visits they told me my brake pads were worn down and needed replaced. By this point it was 2002 and my car had about 20,000 miles on it. I still wasn't sure I agreed with it, but I let them replace my brakes. Still heard the noise. I can't even count how many times my car has been to the two dealerships for the same grinding noise. …
I purchased a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero in June of 2002, since the purchase I have had nothing but mechanical issues. The first being brakes/rotors being replaced twice a year, then my head gasket went, tires wear too quickly, and now my service engine light, ABS light, no traction light (which does not work), change oil light is on, and now I am having problems with my wheel bearings, and cv joints, the car actually makes grinding noises when turning to the left and often sounds and feels as if I have a flat tire. I have had all of these repairs done and the car was fine for 1 week and now all of the problems are back except for the head gasket. …
My 2000 Oldsmobile Alero has had serious problems with it since purchasing it in June of 2002. To date, I have had to replace my waterpump, intake manifold gasket, tires, brakes and rotors consistently (three or more times ayear) . The most recent problem is my gas gauge will indicate that I have 1/4 tank and to my surprise the car will not start unless more fuel is added. The engine also sounds rough, I have both service engine lights on, along with my low tire pressure, anti lock brake light on and I have new tires, replaced a gas cap, and the lights went off, but then come back on. I am also positive that my car will not pass inspection. The cosmetic defects are that of the dash board starting to peel and come loose. …
Tl contact owns a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero. While driving approximately 55 MPH on normal road conditions, the vehicle began to pull in one direction without assistance. The driver pulled over to the side of the road and inspected the vehicle. The front passenger side tire exhibited low air pressure and the low pressure warning indicator was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and they stated that the failure was related to the rims. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic on five separate occasions for identical failures and repair. Recently, the technician recommended that all four rims be replaced. The VIN and failure mileage were unknown. The current mileage was 120,000.
I am on my third pair of brake pads and rotors. The last time this was corrected was in nov. 2002. The initial set that came on the car was supposedly "bad" and replaced nov. 2000. I got the car in aug. 2000. Problem was reported to dealer oct. 2002 as well. Never could identify problem. Grinding light and noises under hood that were finally identified as the brakes taken in again in jan. 01. The "other" consists of a new alternator in nov. 2002 as well as new tires in July 2002. I had to purchase two while GM gave me 2. Locks were messed up again April 02. Faulty window regulator in sept. 01. I have documentation of all of the invoices/printouts from the dealer as well as my maintenance papers.
When turning, vehicle makes a noise in front end. Sometimes it feels and sounds like rubber rubbing together. Contacted dealer who stated this is normal for vehicle to do this. Had to replace front end. Ak consumer has taken vehicle into several different service repair shops and they have tried several fixes but to no avail. Consumer has been informed on several occasions that the problem is with the rims.
When applying brakes, steering wheel would vibrate. Had taken to dealership, and had the rotors resurfaced or replaced. Problem still present. Consumer states tire had to be replaced at 6000 miles, insufficient sealing caused water to leak in to drivers side rear foot well, both front door opening w/strips and door panel water barriers were replaced and also power window squeaks when going up and down.
Rotors bad, brakes bad, wheels leak air, windows leak air in, windshied shakes, engine runs high temps and knocks, paint is starting to rust. Cd player is always shuting off. Dealer has not done a thing to help and my car is under warranty for a few more months. I need help soon.
Consumer stated that when vehicle was taken to dealer for a check up tire pressure was not checked. Brakes were replaced on this vehicle twice within 20000 miles, and the wheels had cracks. Dealer and the manufacturer were informed of this with no remedy.
