What owners report
The driver side, three point seat belt assembly comes unlatched while the vehicle is in motion. This is even after the belt tongue is in place, you hear a click from the latch closing and locking and the belt has been pulled on to test the connection. I took it to the dealership today and the attendant said that the seat belt latch was likely not working due to normal wear and tear. The vehicle is 10 years old and has less than 200,000 miles and is very much still drivable. The dealership tried to charge the vehicle owner over $300.00 for the repair and will not repair without payment. The seat belts should be guaranteed to work properly over the life of the vehicle. This is not an expensive fix as very few people drive their cars over 120,000 miles as is.
Side impact on a 2004 Sable. No airbags deployed. Driver sustained severe injuries including scapula fracture and pneumothorax, pneumomediastinum and subcuaneous air tracking, along with head wounds/lacerations. Patient required icu and multiple ct scans along with x-rays. Passenger airbag also did not deploy causing injury to passenger from seat belt and bounce-back from hitting the door secondary to airbag failure to deploy.
Tl* the contact owned a 2003 Mercury Sable. While driving 35 MPH, another vehicle collided with the contact's vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy and the seat belt did not lock, which forced the contact to strike the steering wheel during the crash. The contact sustained a concussion, back, and neck injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home and then towed to a junk yard. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 100,000.
No accident, but the seat belt on the driver's side has started "latching" only on sporadic occasions. It doesn't latch more times than it does latch. The are times when you have successfully latched the seatbelt, it will come unlatch end while the car is moving. This has now been occurring for about a month.
Tl contact owns a 2002 Mercury Sable. The contact stated that the passenger side seat belt fails to retract. The failure prevents anyone from being able to sit in the passenger seat. The purchase date was unknown. The current mileage is 91,000 and failure mileage was 89,000.
Consumer states that the passenger side seat belt lock ups and will not release until the seat belt is unhooked, without applying brakes.had seat belt replaced several times problem still reoccured. Nlm
Tl*- the contact stated that the seat belt retractor on the passenger's side of the 2001 Mercury Sable will not retract. The dealership informed the contact the retractor was folding the belt over, which caused it to jam. The dealership advised the contact the seat belt retractor needed to be replaced. The contact spoke with the manufacturer. And they informed him this was not covered under the warranty. The current mileage on the vehicle was 28,000. The consumer provided the invoice for repair and pictures before the repair. Update 05/04/07
Tl* the contact owns a 2001 Mercury Sable. While examining the front passenger side seat belt, the contact noticed that the seat belt would no longer retract back to its original position. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer and no repairs had been performed. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 87,000. The VIN was unavailable.
