I have just found out I have lost 2nd gear and 4th gear is on its way out on my car. Apparently this is a problem that Ford has known about at least since 2012, according to an online Ford motor company publication, maybe even earlier. The publication states that it affects 2007-2008 Ford escapes and Mercury mariners. What I want to know is, if they knew about it at least five years ago, why wasn't there a recall and if not a recall, some kind of financial assistance/compensation for the repairs? I've shopped around for prices and the best I could find was $2200.00 for the repair plus another $225.00 for a rental to use while my car is being repaired. The repair is going to take 3-5 days.
Engine & cooling
90sWhile driving, the vehicle will suddenly display a warning message that says "Stop Safely Now". When this message appears, the hybrid system overheats and the vehicle immediately loses power. The gasoline engine and electric motor both shut down without warning, even at highway speeds. I am forced to coast to the side of the road, which is extremely dangerous in traffic. This happens after the vehicle has been driven for a short period of time. The cooling fans appear to be running, but the hybrid electronics system overheats and triggers the shutdown safety mode. After waiting for the vehicle to cool down, it will restart, but the problem continues every time the car reaches normal driving temperature. …
