On November 5th, 2024 I exited a store and my vehicle instrument panel was black when I turned my vehicle on. I turned my vehicle off and on several times trying to get the panel to work. I could also not control the headlights or turn signal with the manual controls either. It was still daylight hours and I was 2 miles from home so I decided to try and see if the vehicle could be driven home. I was able to get the vehicle home but could not get the instrument panel to turn on despite many more times of trying by turning the vehicle off and on. The following morning I contacted the Royal Kia dealership and told them of my issue and they informed me this was a known recall issue that had recently been discovered; they had the vehicle towed to them the same day. …

The dashboard and control panel of my vehicle have repeatedly blacked out since shortly after purchase. These blackouts cause the entire instrument cluster and control systems, including critical safety features, to become non-functional or obstructed intermittently while driving. This creates a dangerous situation where I lose access to important information such as speed, warning indicators, and climate controls, severely compromising my ability to operate the vehicle safely. The issue has occurred multiple times, including once while driving on a highway, which put me and other drivers at significant risk. The problem has been reported to authorized dealerships, where the vehicle was inspected and software updates were attempted, but the issue persists. Despite multiple repair attempts, the blackouts continue to happen unpredictably. …

When I entered and tried the vehicle, I was presented with a trip information display on the instrument cluster in another language(assume Korean) with all values at zero. After turning the car on, the instrument cluster was blank except for the gear indicator and a red parking brake icon. The heads up display was completely blank as well. The car would shift into all other gears and drive. Turn signals did work, but the indicators were absent and did not make any sound. There was also no ready indication or chime signaling that the car was on and ready to drive. The surround view camera system also did not turn off automatically after driving away. Usually the system turns off after 7mph, but there was no speed indication on the blank instrument cluster. I was definitely going much faster. There were no warnings indicating anything wrong with the vehicle. …

The screen that shows speed, miles remaining, etc. went black on a long trip. All of the automated cruise control, lane keeping, etc. are also housed in that screen. The blinkers would not work, I had no idea how fast I was going at any time which is unsafe. I could not see how much range is left on the vehicle which I imagine could lead the car just dying while driving or going into the turtle mode with too low of a charge. Also, the adaptive cruise control was not working properly and at one point when a car in front of me moved over out of my lane, the car accelerated hard and brought me up to about what was probably about 90-100mph, not even close to where it was set earlier. 2 hour drive without screen or these safety features and the screen still is not back. I will be taking it into the dealership. …

I copied this from this website. I'm having the exact same issues. I took it to Oakes Kia where I bought the car and they investigated it and said they had no idea what was going on. [redacted] The digital instrument panel (where the gauges are displayed) goes almost entirely blank. It'll restart after the car sits while off, but we've had to drive without the instrument panel telling us how fast we're going and whether the turn signals are on or off. The screen appears to be losing some communication with the rest of the car, too, because when the digital gauge screen is blank, the camera view that's activated when you're in Reverse doesn't automatically shut off when you're in Drive and moving forward. The odometer, however, appears to still be accumulating mileage when the screen is off. Changing drive modes, however, did not work.

Our vehicle is a brand-new Kia EV9, and since ownership, we've experienced two serious incidents where the instrument cluster/dashboard display has gone completely blank. This occurred once while driving and once immediately after starting the car. The failure is critical because it not only prevents the display of essential information such as speed, but it also disables turn signals, creating an extremely dangerous situation. During the incident that happened while driving, I was unable to signal my intentions to other drivers, significantly increasing the risk of an accident. At present, the only known workaround is to pull over and turn off the vehicle for at least 30 minutes, after which the display typically returns. This issue poses a severe safety concern, and we are eager to have it inspected and properly addressed.
