The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed that the entire transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, while operating the vehicle in the rain the windshield defroster was turned on but the fog on the windshield would not evaporate. Tl contact owns a 2001 Jeep Cherokee. The vehicle was purchased during the winter and the contact did not notice any failures at the time. Once the summer began, he noticed that the air conditioning was not producing cold air. During that same summer, he took the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic. They found no failures or leaks, but added fluid to the air conditioning system. This repaired the failure for the remainder of the summer. The following year, the failure recurred. A private mechanic was unable to find any failure and added liquid to the air conditioning system again. This remedy lasted towards the end of the summer; however, the failure recurred and progressively worsened the following year. The fluid added to the air conditioning system only remedied the failure for no more than four weeks. The contact could no longer afford to keep going back to the mechanic. …
This Jeep has had problems since I first bought it. I questioned the dealer about these problems as they arose. I was made to feel that "all these things" are perfectly natural. This Jeep cannot even back up my driveway without squealing, tires and smoking the tires, no matter how slowly I try to go up it. I do not feel safe in this vehicle and would like Jeep Chrysler to take this vehicle back. I cannot put into 2000 characters all the problems I have had with this vehicle. I have an 11 year old child and thought I was buying reliable transportation. I am very disappointed in the reliablility and the handling of this vehicle. I am afraid to take it on a trip for fear it will quit on me again and strand me in an unsafe place. I have never owned a new vehicle like this before that put the fear of the devil in me like this Jeep does. …
Intermittent A/C failure. Beginning in 2006, complained to Jeep dealership/service that A/C kept cutting out/quitting. Evaporater replaced. I continued to have problems. A/C switch was replaced. I continued to have problems. Compressor was replaced. I continued to have e problems. Jeep was back & forth 1/2 dozen more times with same complaint. I continued to have same problem. Now up to $2K. Took Jeep to A/C specialist. They replaced another switch & said system was over charged...evacuated system & recharged - $400. Jeep continues to experience same problem. They (A/C shop) now say compressor clutch (part of new compressor) is working intermittently & Jeep should honor warranty on compressor & repair clutch.
Brakes malfunctioned both right and left rotors were scored and ruined on the inside only. The brakes failed at 33,809 miles. Looking through the wheel from the outside, the outside of the rotors looked good with no unusual wear. The vehicle also had air conditioning problems and needed to have the muffler replaced.
Since there is no catagory for this issue I had to put visibility/wiper in order to even submit this form. There is no catagory for the heating system which there are a lot of problems!!! The accuator doors regulating the heat to the inside of the vehicle are broken. I thought by replacing the motor which controls them it would fix it. No such luck the doors are broken and not only are they almost impossible to reach without pulling the entire dashboard and console, the cost for it will be around $1500 and that is absurd for a part which is less than $100. The labor will be about $1300 to get to it. What is wrong with these people can't they design a vehicle that can be worked on without taking it apart to a level which makes me want to junk the car!! They should have put something other than plastic to control the heat in the vehicle. …
The defroster failed, as a result, visibility was impaired. The consumer stated the defrosted failed seven times since the vehicle was purchased. The air bag control module was replaced, the right front window did not work.
