NHTSA defect investigations

Federal safety investigators have looked into a possible defect involving the 2007 Infiniti M45:

Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture

NHTSA investigation EA21002 · opened Sep 17, 2021 · open

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited.

Air bags

Takata recall - notified by Infiniti that the car is no longer safe. They cannot fix the car at this time. Until the car is fixed it is unsafe to drive. They should be supplying me with a safe comparable mode of transportation. The notification is an attempt by Infiniti to pass the liability on to me if anything goes wrong. They made the car and should accept liability by ensuring safe transportation either by fixing the car now or supplying an comparable alternate means of transportation.

I received a recall notice in October indicating that my vehicle is not safe and there is the possibility of metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants causing serious injury or death. My families life and safety is in jeopardy. My vehicle is my primary mode of transportation and used for transportation to/from work and to transport my family. I have been patient, not allowing passengers in my front seat for months. It is now the end of February, over five months have passed and nothing has been done to correct the life threatening defect in my car. This is not acceptable! Infiniti has disregarded the safety of my family by the lack of action taken in this matter. This will influence future purchasing decisions and the possibility of pursuing a class action law suit.

Steering

My 2007 Infiniti M45 suddenly lost all electrical power throughout the vehicle resulting in the engine stalling which potentially could have resulted in a crash. The vehicle was immediately towed to passport Infiniti of alexandria for diagnosis and repair. The diagnostic test revealed a failed intelligent power distribution module, ipdm which after in-depth research, has proven to be faulty in multiple Nissan & Infiniti vehicles ranging from years 2004 - 2006. There are current manufacture recalls on several Nissan vehicles to replace faulty ipdm's and it is my belief that the M45 is affected likewise. Currently, the vehicle is completely out of commission and slightly outside of any manufacture warranty coverage as it is a 2007 with approximately 80,000 miles. …

I purchased a 2007 Infiniti M45 sport and feel that I have an incredibly dangerous safety issue due to the steering and/or wheels and tires. The problem, known as "tramlining", is that on slightly uneven or lightly damaged roads the car's steering decides to aggressively follow a path that it chooses itself and if the driver has the slightest lapse in attention, the car will abruptly veer completely into a different lane or off the road. "white-knuckled" driving has become all too familiar to me as a result. My vehicle has not been altered in any way. I have discussed this issue with many other owners who share the same complaint. Thank you for your time.
