A Police report was taken at the scene, and the vehicle was towed to the local dealer. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was not contacted after the failure. Twice within 3 days the car drove when was in electronic park. FIRST August 1 2026 instance got in car parked in a lot. Started it (foot on brake, push start). Spent 15 min checking iPad. When car in front of me backed out of parking space, car dinged, lit up that car in front is leaving like it we were at a stop sign. Then started to move forward. I quickly braked. I may have touched the brake while sitting but never touched the shift. SECOND instance August 3 2026 driving (MY Mode) with Smart Cruise and Lane Assist. Parked in daughter's driveway. Foot on brake. Absolutely pushed Electronic P for park. It was my intention to leave car on for AC while dropping a bag on their porch. I did touch brake again while gathering things to get out - but did not touch shift. While I was turned sideways it drove forward into the garage door. No the foot was not on accelerator. …
The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while driving 15 MPH and depressing the brake pedal to decelerate, an unknown warning light was illuminated and a beeping sound was engaged. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to decelerate as intended and came to a sudden stop, causing another vehicle to crash into the rear of the vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. There was no injury sustained. The contact was able to drive the vehicle away from the scene. No police report was filed. There was no property damage. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was test-driven, but the failure could not be duplicated. The dealer informed the contact that they had turned off all the sensors, except for the rearview camera sensors, to prevent the failure from reoccurring. The vehicle was diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. …
Not sure what failed. At around 8:30 am on a sunny clear day the driver was maneuvering slowly up a ramp between first and second floors of a parking garage at the college campus where the driver works. Driver paused the vehicle and slowly turned to the right to park in an open spot about halfway up the ramp. There was a large concrete pillar to the right of the parking spot and a low steel cable wall at the end of the parking space along the inner structure of the garage. While turning into the space, the driver described suddenly feeling "a loss of control of the vehicle" wherein it "felt like it was in neutral and wouldn't stop". The car hit the wall with extreme force, enough for resulting in minor injuries, damaging the frond end and a total loss to the vehicle. The force was enough to rebound the car back approximately 30 feet from the wall after impact. …
While driving my 2024 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid at approximately 20-25 mph approaching a red light, a sudden and total loss of brake power-assist occurred. Upon applying the brakes, the pedal became instantly rigid and rock-hard. Despite pumping the pedal multiple times and applying heavy manual foot pressure, the vehicle failed to stop, resulting in a low-speed rear-end collision with a stationary car stopped at the traffic light. No dashboard warning lights or malfunction indicators illuminated during or immediately following the event. After the collision, the vehicle's ignition was turned off and then restarted. Following this power cycle, normal braking functionality temporarily returned. The low-speed impact displaced an ultrasonic sensor in the front bumper. …
The contact owns a 2024 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that on three occasions while driving at 65 MPH, the automatic emergency braking system engaged erroneously. While driving at 45 MPH, the failure recurred, but the vehicle resumed normal operation. The automatic emergency braking message illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V316000 (Forward Collision Avoidance). The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified, a case was opened, and the contact was informed that the dealer would have to duplicate the failure for repair coverage. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.
My son was backing out of a parking spot at a strip mall. He released some pressure on the brake and indicated that the car lurched backwards and even though he reapplied full pressure to the brakes, he hit the car at the curb resulting in damage to our Tucson, but luckily not the to the other car. The Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system did not engage, but my son indicated that the rear distance warning system did beep. I am concerned due to the sudden acceleration/lurching incident my son experienced and this is not acceptable in any car. I ask the NHTSA to see if other Hyundai Tucson or Kia Sportage owners, especially with the Hybrid engine are experiencing this.
I was driving on the freeway and suddenly the auto emergency breaking auto system activated. However there were no cars ahead of me, the road was completely clear. I was driving within the speed limit. Thankfully there were no cars behind me; otherwise this could've ended very badly. I pressed on the accelerator multiple times and the emergency breaking disengaged. Since I was driving I did not want to get distracted by figuring out how to disable auto assist. But the next time I got into my car I am went into the dashboard system to turn off auto emergency braking and set it only to provide warning notifications. it was not that easy to do. I had to Google it and look at multiple user forums to figure out how to turn off auto emergency breaking in the dashboard.
