Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2024 Honda Ridgeline owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
The contact owns a 2024 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while stopped at a red traffic light, the engine failed to restart after the Auto Start/Stop feature engaged. The battery warning light briefly illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact shifted the transmission to Park (P) and pressed the Engine Start/Stop button to restart the vehicle. The contact deactivated the Auto Idle Stop (AIS) feature to prevent the failure from recurring. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was determined that the starter motor required replacement; however, the replacement part was on backorder. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Action Number: EA25004 (Engine And Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure by phone, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
The contact owns a 2024 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle with the Push-To-Start feature, the vehicle failed to start. No warning light was illuminated. Additionally, while idling in traffic, the vehicle lost automotive power and failed to accelerate as intended while the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was restarted as a temporary fix. Upon further inspection, the contact became aware of an abnormal electrical burning odor entering the cabin of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed; however, no cause for the failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
The contact owns a 2024 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while stopping at a red light, the Auto START feature failed to restart the vehicle, and the vehicle started rolling backwards. The brake pedal was depressed, and the PUSH to START button was depressed, and the vehicle was restarted. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,200.
I am reporting a recurring Auto Idle Stop no-restart and starting-system failure in a 2024 Honda Ridgeline. At approximately 35,072 miles, while stopped at a traffic light with Auto Idle Stop engaged, the engine shut off but failed to restart when the brake pedal was released. The vehicle remained disabled in the intersection until it was manually restarted, creating a risk of a collision. An authorized Honda dealer found both positive and negative battery terminals loose, tightened them, reported that the battery passed a load test, found no diagnostic trouble codes, and returned the vehicle. The battery had already been replaced at approximately 30,238 miles after a slow-start complaint and a failed battery test. The condition recurred at approximately 42,563 miles. …
Initial Mechanical Issues - September 2026 In September, while slowing down at a traffic light, my Ridgeline unexpectedly shifted into Park on its own. I was forced to turn the vehicle completely off and restart it before I could continue driving. In addition to this dangerous incident, I experienced several other electrical and mechanical problems: The high beams would activate unexpectedly, even when another vehicle was directly in front of me. The driver's side window would move up and down without being prompted. The vehicle began hesitating when starting in the mornings, behaving as though it had an aging or failing engine. Second Dangerous Incident - October 13, 2026 Approximately one month later, the vehicle again began experiencing difficulty starting and shifting gears roughly. …
The system in question and failing is the idle-stop engine, start function. The truck is available for inspection upon request. The idle-stop engine has failed to restart the engine several times in traffic and at stop lights. This has created a safety hazard, since even after completely shutting down the vehicle (all power off), it has taken multiple tries to restart. The starter becoming increasingly harder to start each time. The problem has been reproduced by Hagerstown Honda, [redacted] where I purchased and have the vehicle serviced. Vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer's representative -- Hagerstown Honda. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. This issue began occurring in [redacted], after owning the vehicle just over two years. …
In August 2026, my 2024 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition became undriveable while traveling in stop and go traffic on a four lane interstate. Without warning, the vehicle shut down completely and would not restart. After multiple attempts, it eventually restarted, but the shutdowns continued several more times during the same trip. The local Honda dealership retrieved diagnostic codes indicating software and transmission faults related to the auto stop/start system. They reinstalled the vehicle's software. Several weeks later, similar failures occurred again involving the stop/start system. During the second evaluation, the dealership diagnosed the starter motor electrical connections as the source of the fault, noting that the starter was drawing excessive amperage. Replacement parts were no longer available from Honda and took several weeks to obtain. …
The automatic engine stop/start system is a safety hazard. On multiple occasions with two different drivers (husband and wife owners), the engine has stopped just as the accelerator is pressed after waiting for traffic to clear at a stop sign or while waiting to enter a street from a driveway or parking lot. The delay when expecting the vehicle to accelerate has nearly caused accident(s) several times. Drivers are forced to switch off the automatic stop/start system every time the vehicle is driven since it defaults to active and it is not safe to use. The system should be permanently disabled or at least programmed to be disabled as default when engine is started. This issue was reported to the local Honda dealer during the first routine service--owners were told that nothing could be done by the dealer. The service advisor suggested that we contact manufacturer or NHTSA directly. …
My vehicle is currently sitting at a Honda dealership with a broken crankshaft counterweight and seized bearing. The engine needs to be replaced but Honda has refused to conduct the dealership warranty and blame shift it to a cracked oil pan that had happened in November of last year that was quickly addressed. Since then I have gone to [redacted] and back to [redacted] showing the vehicle was fine and operating. It is to my understanding that my 2024 Ridgeline has a 3.5L J-Series V6 engine. The NHTSA is actively investigating over 1.4 million Honda V6 engines for this exact connecting rod bearing seizure defect. I feel it is wrong for the dealership to pin a known defect on something unrelated and have insurance pay and avoid conducting the warranty repair. …
4 times since I owned the truck it has stalled at traffic lights. The dashboard tells me there is an issue and tells me go in park. Then put my foot on the brake and start it normally. It does not restart. After 20 clicks twice it restarted only after I exited the vehicle, locked the door and reentered the vehicle. One time I was left at the light for an hour waiting for a tow truck. A police office tried to start it, and he put his foot on the gas. Eventually it started. The truck has less than 1,500 miles on it. The dealerships that have seen car did not find an error code so there is nothing they can do at this time. I took a video today when it happened for the 4th time to see if it helps. I saw online a similar problem with the Pilot from 2020-2022.
