A few years ago my 2017 Honda HRV appeared to have what I thought was a glitch with the gas/millage gage. As time went on the glitch happened more frequently and the gage would either be blank or only fractions lit making it unusable. At times I was unable to tell how much gas I had and since I could also not track my miles I could not calculate. I have to drive for work and at times in remote and unsafe areas, having a reliable and fully functioning vehicle is very important. I also ran into in issue while having my oil changed causing a delay in service. Luckly after about 30min-1hr and some flickering the gage returns however I'm worried this will continue more and more frequently and eventually last longer all go out all together. …
4/22/2025, my Honda HRV 2017 is parked and locked. The front/rear head lights will come on after the car is locked for 45 second and around 5 seconds after the lights came on it will sound off the alarm. The next day i took it to Honda to do diagnostic and they told me is the Body Control Module(BCM) issue. It will cause $1,350 +tax to replace it. It is pricey but it seems odds an eight years old car barely 45k miles with good taken care that a module so easy to went bad. Also all services(transmission oil, synthetic oil change, brake fluid, etc...) are done at the dealership nothing being done outside. I also found online there are some amount people complain about the same issue and same model year/model. One with the highest quote of $1,800+ to replace the BCM. I don't see any recall on this 2017 Honda HRV related to the BCM. …
In cold weather lcd display of dash display malfunction, no odometer reading, fuel or maintanance reminders on 12/18/2023. Only lasted 10 minutes but was concerning. car is out of warranty 42,000 miles , lots reports of same thing on HRV forum, goes all the way back 8 years honda was aware of this problem, last inspection was in 2021. This happened without warning and means you dont known how much gas is in car, when to change oil and other maintanance items. Told this is a liability problem, hoping Honda will issue a recall fix, other wise will have to live with it. Only a dealer can resolve this problem due to odometer reading being reset other wise would fix it myself. I have not been back to the dealer yet.
My car's warning lights came on and it had a hard time staying in gear. The engine was making a screeching sound and it stuttered when I drove it. I took it to my local mechanic and they found metal shavings and chunks in the transmission. They said they had seen this problem before. I called Honda and they requested I take it to Honda service station to do an additional assessment. Service center said the same thing- it was a faulty design in this make and model and the transmission belt was being ground down causing the metal chunks to cause damage. Honda is refusing to stand by their product and cover the cost of the repair.
The odometer is not working properly, screen continues to flicker and has been progressively getting worse. It seems like is this a common issues with Honda HRVs. It puts me at risk for running out of gas at any point and living in the country doesn't make me feel safe. I've spoken with several HRV owners and each of them have this issue at different millage. The flashing can become very distracting while driving....
Body control module this same part is already recalled in accords and other vehicles. The car will stop and cut off lights on the dash will flash there is clicking as the car tries to start on its own. It has been to multiple dealerships who stated it is already recalled on other models of Honda for causing the same issues. There are no warning lights it just randomly happens.
Dashboard where GAS/MILEAGE/TIME does not appear especially when it's cold. We cannot know how much gas we have and we will not be able to track our mileage to figure if we need gas. No messages or other symptoms appeared prior.
Just bought my 2017 HR-v and already had it towed after parking it at my works parking garage for just 4 hrs. The check engine, and parking lights came on and the vehicle started moving rapidly back and forth up and down and just stopped right in the drive way almost across blocking traffic. My ins company..thank god paid over $800.00 this time because I was told some kind of animal..rodent maybe chewed on some of my wires. On top of it, I sighted up for car rental under the extended pro tech services, so I removed the coverage from my insurance. So I ended up sharing my daughter's car for three days. Very inconvenient. !!! Very dissatisfied..and disappointed. Ps. I also asked, if there is something they can put on there to avoid this from happening. I was told "no". Just read.. There is a tape made by Honda that they to avoid that. Guess, better for them... …
Service ticket created 4/25/2020: ignition - start / stop switch: b12c5 start/stop switch internal failure. My 2017 Honda hrv fails to start or stop when pressing the ignition button once. May take several presses, gradually getting worse to the point where it May not work at all. The Honda service department told me a previous customer could not get her vehicle to even stop. Therefore this is not an isolated case, and checking online I found it affects other Honda vehicles of other model years as well. The Honda service department wants to charge me $360.44 since I am just out of warranty. And they are unable to give me an exact date for when the part will arrive as it is on back order nationwide, which also shows this is not an isolated incident.
