My truck lost power and stopped running while driving on the freeway on the afternoon of 9-19-03. It was eventually towed to the dealer. Upon inspection I was told that nothing was wrong and that it ran fine. I was not convinced. On 9-22-03 it was determined that the truck needed a new catalitic converter and was driven in. I picked it up three days later. The next day the service light came on. I called the dealer and was told to bring it in. It was determined that the truck's computer needed to be updated. However the main computer was down and as such were not able to service it at that time. I was asked to return for reprogramming. The service light came back on on the evening of the 30th. I was not going to be able to bring it in to the shop until this week and in the meanwhile I was not driving it all that much. This past week end the service light came back on on Saturday. …
2000 GMC Jimmy experienced a problem with the front right hub and the wheel speed sensor. The consumer was pulling into a parking space and the brake pedal became stiff and or would not activate. The consumer had run into a brick wall and bounced into traffic. The check ABS system light had immediately illuminated. The consumer was then able to apply the brakes and backed into a parking space. The left front hub was replaced days before the consumer purchased the vehicle. The vehicle was also losing coolant. The consumer was informed that no coolant was in the vehicle.
While driving at 45 MPH, the check engine light came on. The dealer examined the vehicle and claimed that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The consumer was driving at the same speed and all of the lights illuminated on the dash. The consumer pulled onto the shoulder and the vehicle was smoldering under the hood.
The engine shuts off while you are driving.. Amp meter needle drops to zero. And the engine shuts off. We have replaced battery, and alternator twice.dealership can"t fix it. It is dangerous to drive but it is all we have.
The car was running on south hi 35, before arrive to 51th st, austin, texas. It was Friday, around 10:30, we were in the middle lane going to a medical appointment, when the car stop working, the engine went off. We were two in the car, and we were scare. Thanks god was in the morning, not rush hour, but hi 35 is always busy. We were lucky and found an space between the cars. We just park the car close the exit to go to 51th, but the safety truck which help on hi 35, parked behind us, so it protected us until the tow truck came for us, one and a half hour later.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the engine stalled without any prior warning. The engine would not restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop for inspection. The mechanic suggested replacing the fuel pump. Additionally, the mechanic determined transmission fluid was low and the wires of the wiring harness needed to be replaced. The mechanic replaced the fuel pump assembly, added transmission fluid, and new wires to the wiring harness. Afterwards, the stalling problem persisted. Updated 4/6/2006 -
Noticed a unusual odor coming from the engine area in late December, 2008. We took our Jimmy in for routine service (1/21/2009) it was recommended that the engine oil cooler lines were leaking and need to be replaced. We found out that the oil was dripping on the exhaust system causing the unusual odor. This could result in a fire and loss of vehicle or injury to the occupants if it was not noted by the dealer technician.
I have a 1999 Chevy blazer, and a 2000 GMC Jimmy, which are both basically the same vehicles. The 99 blazer developed an oil leak from the oil lines at 33,000 miles, and the 2000 now has the same oil lines leaking at 41,000 miles. I have heard that this is a common problem with these vehicles, and engines have been ruined due to the oil lines. I feel that GM should offer to replace the obviously defective oil lines.
Engine system: oil cooling lines: oil ( dripping) loss first noticed November, 2010 at 90,000mi- drip became progressively worse over several weeks creating potential engine damage and fire danger. Oil cooler lines replaced first week January, 2011 at 94,000 miles. Replacement of the oil cooler lines has been a common and recurrent complaint for the 2000 GMC Jimmy--see: mycarstats.com--since 2002.
At 50,000 miles, both front wheel bearings had to be replaced, as the vehicle was pulling off the road as it was being driven. I was told that they wore because of no grease. Now at 61,000 miles, the intake manifold gasket is leaking, and the oil lines are also leaking. The dealership estimated repair costs at well over $1100 dollars. This is a 2000 GMC Jimmy, and only has 61,000 miles.
