Electrical system
I started my GMC Envoy so that it May warm up. As it was warming up I started to smell smoke. I hit the OnStar button and was speaking to the customer rep when the smoke got heavy and sparks came from the drivers door panel. I immediately back the car out of my driveway because I did not want my house to burn in case the car went up in flames. The OnStar rep called the fire department who came and ripped apart the door panel, disconnected the battery and pulled out a burned window harness unit. The fire chief said that it what started the fire. The tow truck came and took the car to the dealer where I was told I had to pay out of pocket because the warranty was over, mind you this is a 2007 GMC. When I told him it was a manufacturer defect and it did not matter whether or not I had warranty or not GMC should be responsible. …
In 2012, GMC recalled the 2007 Envoy for a faulty switch that was shorting out and causing fire on the passenger door. There was a delay between the time the recall was issued and when my vehicle was up for repair due to a back order of parts. In May 2013, the consumer was told the parts were in and the local GMC dealer repaired the switch (12180) "per service procedure" which meant, a coating was put on the door switch however, the consumer was not made aware to the exact nature of these "procedures." at the end of June 2013, the door had shorted out and was again taken in to the GMC dealer and actually replaced after endangering the lives of 4 individuals who visited a gas station as the last stop. When a claim was opened with GM, the consumer was given a lot of "I understand" and no other answer could be given except for it was standard procedure to "band-aid" these switches. …

Fuel & propulsion system
Sending unit inside of gas tank: when full of gas, gauge says below empty & gas light comes on. When 7/8 full to almost empty gas gauge reads correct, when empty gas gauge reads 2nd to last line, car runs out of gas & no gas light comes on. When you are driving at 50 MPH and run out you could crash. When car is parked for 4+min. Gauge goes below empty & fuel light comes on.
Fuel sensor failed on vehicle less than 2 years old but past warranty. Symptoms were fuel gauge failed to work or worked incorrectly and engine light would come on intermittently. I was unable to determine how much gas was in tank. Had to pay $630 for parts and labor to replace fuel sensor since I am 5K miles over the 36K warranty.
