I was driving my 2000 Ford Taurus down the highway at 70 MPH with my wife and small child, on our way to church, when the passenger side spring broke and nearly pulled our car into a guard rail and off a bridge. This happened sometime in 2004 and I can still remember the exact location on hwy 59. It's a day I doubt I ever forget. I remember the mechanic telling me a front spring should never fail. He said there were no current recalls, so I was stuck with the bill. I remember being furious with Ford not only because my family nearly died, but because they wouldn't own up to something that should never happen. Here it is nearly 12 years later, and I found an invoice from 2008 for new struts and sway bars that cost me nearly $1,000. I can't help but think that bill was somehow related to what happened when my spring broke in 2004, but maybe not. …
Front end unacceptable! Then defroster didn't work in winter and I had to use my shirt sleeve to keep rubbing the windshield. I told ac collins Ford dealership that something was wrong with the coil springs and brakes when I bought it. I also told them that the ac was leaking in car. I told them that the steering wheel would shake when I was braking. I can send over the emails if you like. Ac collins sold me this car with serious suspension problems. You May have all records of proof. Front suspension coil spring fracture defect investigation for the 2000 Taurus investigation: #pe04044 opened: May 24 2004. Tl* the contact owns a 2000 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that the rear axle was completely rusted and the subframe that held the two rear tires was also rusted and fractured. As a result, the contact had to change the rear tires more frequently. The check engine and ABS lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the entire frame needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 300,000.
Drivers side front coil spring broke and ruptured the tire. I bought the car in california and moved to new england 10 years ago, so it has been subjected to road salt. I called Ford. The representative informed me that there was no recall on this vehicle. I read that there had been a recall on the 1999-2000 Ford Taurus for this precise problem. It is very possible I May have the same problem with the other coil springs while driving and not as in this occasion while the car was parked in my driveway. Ma 10/8 ....updated 11/13/15
I was attempting a lane change at 75 MPH the rear end of the car came around. I have noticed that the rear of the car slides very easily, I feel this is an engineering flaw. I was in a accident the airbags did not deploy and I was in the hospital. I have lost my car in a probable total loss. I feel that the rear of the car was engineered incorrectly. The rear of the car is too loose and loses traction on turns too easily. **dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**768219
I just bought a used 2000 Ford Taurus....I was wondering why my tires were screeching every time I drove, my tires bald badly within a week or two...took it to a mechanic he told me that the right lower control line was bent and that's why I really cant drive anywhere. I am very concerned about my car I need a vehicle to work and see my daughter...
I have a 2000 Ford Taurus wagon that my spring snapped and sitting on top of my tire. Read that there was a recall, however it is saying it would have had to happen before 2005. I feel it should still be covered by Ford and I am a single mother of 3 and my income is limited. Paying between $600 and $1500 to have repaired is not available to me.
Tires: reported vibration , shimmy and pulling to the left. Took to dealer 6/24/2000 (1829) miles, balanced tires. On 11/14/2000 (9061)miles, 04/23/2001 (12871) balanced tires. Finally, 5/25/2001 (14518) replaced two front tires. Vibration and shimmy stopped but kept pulling to the left. On 10/10/2001 (23876) miles, charged me for alignment, car stopped pulling. Transmission: at approximately 40800 miles car had a noticeable shudder while going in reverse. Took to the dealer and was told it was a cracked casing as noted in TSB 15559 NHTSA number (630095) caused by miss manufacture of a part. Was informed dealer or Ford motor co. Would not assist with repair cost to exceed $1495. Brakes: reported brake problem on 5/25/2001 and 10/10/2001 when it was server, shaking and control problems when stopping. Dealer cut front rotors which was out of spec.- problem is back. …
The left rear spring on our 2000 Ford Taurus failed. The sharp, jagged end of the broken spring gouged the inner sidewall of the left rear tire, but the tire remained inflated. We don t know when the spring failed or when the tire was damaged. We were unaware of these failures, so we used the car normally driving it at highway speed as well as in town. This is a serious safety problem. The Ford dealer discovered the rear spring failure and the tire damage during a routine annual state safety inspection. When I searched the NHTSA website, I learned that Taurus front spring failures were reported at about 45000 miles but no rear spring failures had been reported. We replaced the front & rear springs. Our car was in the dealer s repair shop for 25 days. Ford motor company refused to cover the entire repair cost. Ford didn t provide a loner car. …
This complaint concerns a 2000 Ford Taurus.n Monday, 2/9/04, my wife, carol, was leaving a parking space at work and the front wheels spun on the ice a little. She heard a pop and got out to look. The drivers front tire was flat. Aaa came to change the tire and the mechanic had to use the tow lift to raise the car enough to get the jack under it. He replaced the tire with the spare and she drove home. When I looked at the tire, it had been cut all the way around on the inside just below where the tread meets the sidewall. On Tuesday, 2/10/04, I took the car to bj's wholesale club on route 20 in auburn, ma, to purchase a new tire, and when they removed the spare they could see that the large spring that goes around the strut had broken and had cut the tire. They said that they have seen a considerable number of these broken springs on Ford tauruses. …
