Consumer lightly stepped on the gas and the gas pedal went all the way down to the floor. The truck took of at a high rate of speed. Owner put truck in nuetral , theeingine was still idling, so owner turned the truck off. . The owner opened the hood and observed that the cruise control cable was interfering with the return spring on the fuel injection linkage, causing the throttle likage to remain in a fully openedx position. Owner has been trying to get in contact with the manufactutrer.
The dealership was unable to perform the ignition switch wiring recall #00V135000, and the throttle cable recall# 01V037000 because the parts were not available. It has been 60 days. Recall campaign; the consumer stated that it has now been 3 months and the parts are still not available. The consumer has since found a part on his own.
Although throttle cable was frayed (4 strands of the cable) it did not fail at the time I replaced it. I just noticed it while performing some preventive maintenance and was afraid that it could stick in the wide open throttle position if not repaired. **dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis*734289
I went to pass another vehicle and depressed the accelerator to the floor and as I completed passing the accelerator stuck in the wide open throttle position. Since I was accelerating wide open throttle with no control I decided to turn the ignition off but in the process lost power steering and brakes. At this time the vehice I passed nearly rear ended me. I was finally able to pull off the road. I opened the hood and was able to free the cable mechanism back to idle position. Something in this cable mechanism is sticking/binding and the return spring isn't string enough to pop it back. Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Apparently the diesel version has been recalled but the v-10 has not. It appears the v-10 also suffers from this stuck accelerator problem.
While driving down freeway at 70 MPH tried to slow down and could not.throttle was stuck so had to apply brakes very hard to maneuver through traffic.got to shoulder of road and turned off ignition at very high RPM.found fraid throttle cable with part of it inside throttle cable housing.dealer said they could not fix for 3 days.took it to steve's auto and diesel repair 408 e. Rio vista burlington wa. 98233.ph.# [phone].they where real busy but took us in because they said it was dangerous to drive truck that way.paid $84.35 for new cable and labor.suggest all truck owners inspect throttle cables closely.could have been a major accident with falities with less experienced driver.
Consumer was traveling about 5mph and throttle got stuck. Dealership was made aware of the problem. Consumer received a recall notification in the mail #970 for the throttle cable and throttle linkage componets to be replaced, however after becoming stranded and then having vehicle towed it was determined by a mechanic that none of the throttle linkages components were replaced and mechanic informed consumer that the parts were on back order and the the previous dealer that performed the work must have used a defective part and consumer realized that the repair only took an hour.
After elec. Ingnition harness replaced under recall vehicle has had numerous electrical related faliures. Headlight switch melted in dash 2x's causing smoke and or fire condition. A/C failure, no power to compressor. Bucking, missing, hesitation at idle and all speeds. Buck, miss, hesistation can not be diagnoised by numerous dealers or private mechanics. Have spent over 1700.00 replacing parts (PCM, EGR selonoid, EGR gasket, tps sensor, iat motor, o2 sensor, fuel pump, fuel regulator) to remedy problem. So far no help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Prior to recall notification, consumer experienced a problem with the throttle cable being frayed, the recall stated if the repair had already been made to submit the necessary paperwork, however the labor portion of the bill was hand written and the manufacturer would not accept that, another invoice was submitted with paid stamped on the front but the labor charge was still hand written, manufacturer informed consumer that the information would need to be written on business stationary for reimbursement.
Consumer has a stick shift, and driving through traffic one day throttle wouldn't return. At that time there was no recall. Consumer purchased a new throttle and put it on. Consumer located recall 01V037000/ manufacturer's recall 97, )and contacted manufacturer. This vehicle was not included in recall due to VIN. Consumer states upon replacing the cable for the throttle, it was clearly evident that the cable was badly frayed and got caught on the rubber tube and caused an open stuck throttle.
