Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 1995 Dodge Neon owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
1)instrument gauges work sporadically: speedometer fails most not reporting any speed, or sticking at last location. Tachometer fails same way, and on occasion all gauges stick at current position. 2) exterior brake lights: brakes lights remain on/do not shut off while driving and even after car has been shut off completly. I've found them still on after several hours (no other lights on) 3) left turn signal: from time to time when you hit the brakes the left turn signal switches on. 4) car stereo: stereo/tape player stopped working. Clock does not come on, nothing. It does light up with interior lights but does not work at all. 5) was rear-ended in mva and airbags did not deploy.
1. Car leaking oil at head gasket and other seals, possible fire hazard. Other '95 Neon owners have had similar problems when the car reaches 60K miles 2. Left turn signal sticking in on position, 3. Glue melted from around front and rear windows, afraid that windshield or rear glass May "pop" out, 4. Car pulls to the left, and even though numerous attempts have been made to correct the problem. The car still steers to either a left or right direction, the steering wheel will not line up with the direction of travel. Misaligned steering wheel become tiring on long trips.
The plastic lenses on my 1995 Dodge Neon's headlights, turn indicators, and fog lights have significantly deteriorated over time. The lenses have yellowed and are pitted causing a significant loss of light output. It is less safe to drive this car at night. I wrote to daimler Chrysler and they denied my claim. They acknowledged that the repair is expensive but stated that the warranty had expired. I do not believe this is a warranty issue - I believe it is a safety issue.
Right turn signal cancel switch broke and won't go off. Consumer had the switch replaced. Once and the problem occurredagain. If the consumer didn't turn the switch off, the switch would stay on the right turn. Will replace defective turn signal cancel switch for $200. 00.
Hazard lights failed causing it to be dangerous to speed (fear of further delays) to the emergency room (residence out of ambulance are, would have taken longer to call 911) , wife miscarried, which could have been prevented if arrived sooner.
'ive had my car since 9/94 and now with 123,000 miles. I like the shape and the color and comfort of the car. I was told by several dealers to drive it to the end. I will never get what I paid for a trade-in. As of now, ive use my exetended warranty, cant afford to put in shop, 2/98 made a call to holzauers and asked about my skruntched in bits pieces rotor. They checked for squeeks and didnt tell me about a bad rotor. Squealing and no brakes. A new brake system was done and still squeaking. Now back brakes are bad. Ive had lots of bad things happen. But ive had lots of compliments ofthe color. One week after I got it a car spun rocks & scratched the hood paint. The paint job is not good. Im getting rusty spots now. Water leaked inside and holzauers rigged it to stop. When it get 90/100' hot weather, air bag light stays on, heat/air fan dont work til car cools. …
While driving with the headlights on, the consumer noticed poor lighting. The consumer inspected the headlights and saw discoloration on the headlight lenses.
A failed turn signal switch started an electrical fire in the Chrysler vehicle. ** answer required*** the fire originated in the steering column.
Dome light, tail light, right turn signal, and windshield washer not working. Paint flaking. Brake failure. Radio, dashboard lights not working. Battery and master cylinder replaced. Engine problem.
Left turn signal on, all lights in back of car flash. Then applied brakes, all lights were steady. Take foot off brakes, all lights in back flashed again. Front left signal does the same thing.
