Owner reports

Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2006 Chrysler Sebring owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).

I am joining the many other owners who's horns go off, with out warning car off or car on. At the same time the horn now seems to have stopped working entirely leaving me no way to warn other drivers that do not see me. I can confirm the costive a repair is on the $1100 range and my local Chrysler reports they do this repair 4 times per week, nationwide. This repair is out of my budget and I think Chrysler needs to recall and repair these vehicles. The horn has gone off in stationary, motion, on a city street and highway and turning. Even with the engine shut off in the wee hours of the morning. Below you ask when did this happen? At least 20 times. The horn switch indeed includes the air bags. No way to test them but I fear they are not working as this switch is bad. I hope I don't find out the hard way.

About 4:30 pm (rush hour) on 20 October 2015 I was driving south on I-95 south of washington dc when the horn sounded continuously and unexpectedly, surprising me and drivers near me. I was going straight at about 60 MPH. It stopped after I firmly depressed the horn pad twice. After I arrived at home the horn sounded again for about 1 minute. The car was parked with the wheel slightly to the left. I disconnected the horn and began researching on line. It didn't take long to find that this has been a common problem with Chrysler sebrings for quite a few years: www.carcomplaints.com/Chrysler/Sebring/2006/accessories-interior/horn_goes_off_by_itself.shtml.

Could not use my horn and airbag did not deploy during an accident. The airbag and horn do not work because the fuse had to be taken out the fuse runs these functions. The fuse was taken out because the horn does not function properly which also means the airbag has a fifty, fifty chance of working with the fuse in. Because no investigation has been done on this function everyone on the road is at risk. Safety is an issue and this needs to have a recall. Stop making americans pay for lemons!!!

I was driving at minimum speed to turn right and then I lost control of my steering wheel almost hit some cars and a pole but the sidewalk stopped the car from going anywhere I looked up online because I saw a recall that was related to my situation called dealership they said there was no recall for my car. Car is drivable like if nothing ever happened but I don't feel safe driving it.

I have a 2006 Chrysler Sebring that I purchased new and the horn goes off by itself all the time. It has gone off when I click the lock or unlock buttons on my keyless remote, when you open or close the door, driving down the road, starting or shutting off the vehicle, while sitting in the driveway. I can't seem to find anything in particular that will make it stop. After some investigating I have found this is a very common problem with the sebrings and have discovered that it will cost approx. $1000 to fix it. The horn is attached to the airbag in the steering column, so the airbag has to be replaced. I have also discovered that if you pull the horn fuse, which most people are doing because they can't afford the repair, it will disable the air bag. So I feel this is a very bad safety issue. 1. I was driving down the road and the horn started blowing by itself! This is a huge safety issue!!!!! I almost had an accident because of this happening. I am handicapped and have my grandchildren in my car. This is such a distraction to my neighbors and to other drivers on the road. Other drivers are distracted by the noise which is a safety hazard! I have had the car for 6 yrs and have never received any information about this problem. But in doing some research there are many other cars like mine that have the same problem. This is a grave situation with this happening. Why isn't Chrysler doing anything to fix this problem in their cars? Would chryslers upper echelon put their families in these cars and send them off to drive on the highways with the horn randomly honking and not being able to stop it while driving a vehicle? …
