Symptoms similar to recall 07V349000. Smell of fuel accompanied by liquid on the ground. Inspection by mechanic indicates failure of fuel filler neck and accompanying inlet of the fuel tank itself. Unable to secure fuel filler neck replacement that fits, nor replacement fuel tank.
The fuel tank leaks at the fuel tank, leak at the fuel tank filler tube attachment point to the tank. There is a rubber grommet on the tank that the tube attaches to the tank where the leak is. Defiantly a fire hazard. Leaks when tank is more than 1/2 full. This tube is metal and the fuel tank filler tube attaches to with a rubber hose and clamp. The Chevrolet dealer says the VIN was exclude from NHTSA campaign id number 07V349000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage), although the failures were identical. The dealer stated have to replace the fuel tank which not covered.
Tl contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Venture. The vehicle was parked and shut off for a long period of time when it ignited into flames. The vehicle was destroyed but was not investigated for the failure. The failure and current mileage was 160,000. Updated 5/2/11 updated 05/11/11

I have a leaking fuel tank. It is described perfectly in recall: 07V349000, GM recall # 06230. When I took it to the dealer, they told me because of higher mileage, it is not covered. I then called GM and they told me the same thing. How can you sell a vehicle with a defective part, put it on recall and then not fix it? I am glad I found it before my vehicle caught on fire!
I have a 2001 Chevy Venture that had a recall on the fuel tank because it could leak fuel and a cause a fire. On April 19th my wife took the van in to chapman Chevrolet in tempe,az to get the tank replaced because it has been leaking fuel for some time now. We were never notified of this recall. We looked it up online. When she got there she was told that we were over the mileage for the free tank replacement and would have to pay a $1000 to have it replaced. That was of course out of the question and it is not our fault that they made a defective tank and is a fire hazard that they want people to drive around in unless they have a thousand dollars to spend on replacing it. Please help if you can. This can be a serious problem and GM needs to stand behind their products.
Tl contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Venture. The air conditioning system failed while in use. The dealer stated that the air compressor was replaced. However, the failure recurred. The dealer stated that the gasket seals needed to be replaced. The fuel gauge no longer indicated how much fuel was in the vehicle. The dealer stated that the sensor in the fuel tank had to be replaced. Also, there was a shortage in the driver's side turn signal, causing the signal to fail. The dealer repaired the signal. Yet it failed repeatedly. The current and failure mileage were 85000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Venture. The contact stated that fumes were emitted in and around the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the recall NHTSA campaign number: 07V349000 (fuel system, gasoline) was directly related to the failure the vehicle was exhibiting. However, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the fuel tank inlet check valve fractured and as a result, the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 114,000.
Tl contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Venture. The contact smelled gasoline and noticed fluid on the ground. He then observed a crack in the fuel inlet check valve. The dealer stated that the VIN was excluded from NHTSA campaign id number 07V349000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage), although the failures were identical. The contact must pay $135 just to have the vehicle inspected. He feels that since this is a defect, he should not have to pay. The vehicle will be repaired. The failure and current mileages were 60,000.
Tl* - the contact called regarding the 2001 Chevrolet Venture. The seam came loose in the fuel system, which caused a slow fuel leak. The leak occurred when the tank was full.
