On Saturday, August 29, 2026, at approximately 12:00 PM, I was driving my 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV RS on the highway at about 65 mph. The weather conditions were clear and sunny. Without warning, the vehicle's automatic emergency braking (AEB) system abruptly engaged with full force, causing a severe and sudden deceleration. There were no vehicles, pedestrians, or obstacles in front of my vehicle at the time. There was active traffic trailing my vehicle. Fortunately, the driver directly behind me had enough following distance to react in time and avoid a severe rear-end collision. Today, August 31, 2026, I spoke directly with my Chevrolet dealership, and they confirmed that my vehicle's software had already been updated to be compliant with GM TSB #N252521591 (Image Processing Module / Unwanted Integrated Brake Assist) prior to this event. …

The emergency braking system is not engaging appropriately and when activated it stutters to a stop and does not come to an immediate stop. When in emergency situations the braking system detect objects that are not present causing it to come to a stuttering stop and causing a hazard and accident.

I bought a new Chevy Equinox EV on 12/13/24. The day I bought the car, I found that while driving home on interstates and other roads listed by GM as mapped for Supercruise, the system will work for a few minutes, then cut out. There is no warning in advance of this shutdown. When all this happens the car immediately brakes in the middle of traffic and loses steering control, red lights go off, and the driver must quickly assume control to prevent a crash. After it happens, the car pops up a message that the ACC is also unavailable. Then another message that Forward Collision Detection is also unavailable, at which point the whole Supercruise system shuts down until the car is turned off and restarted, and then the whole cycle is repeated. This even happened once in the middle of an automated lane change. It's extremely dangerous. …
