Engine & cooling all 27 →
I am extremely concerned about excessive valve train noise and after reading several Corvette forum threads about improperly machined heads by GM's supplier linamar, and that numerous vehicles have had valves drop and ruin the engines causing a loss of control of the vehicle due to the engine stopping abruptly. 88% of the Corvette forum members who have had their cylinder heads tested for excessive valve guide wear, were out of service specifications. Source: http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c6-Z06-discussion/3386141-the-out-of-spec-guide-wear-registry.html GM needs to issue a recall on this issue, there have been numerous engine failures as a result of a dropped valve into a cylinder which can cause severe accidents and fires. …
I was concerned about excessive valve train noise and after reading several Corvette forum threads about improperly machined heads by GM's supplier linamar, and that numerous vehicles have had valves drop and ruin the engines, I took my car with 27000 miles on it to a Corvette specialty shop to have my valve guide clearance tested. I had (2) intake valve guides outside of service specifications, (4) exhaust valve guides outside of service specifications, and a combination of (10) other intake and exhaust valve guides at or near the maximum outside of service specifications. The car is being repaired with proper re-machining of the heads to make the valve guides concentric, new intake and exhaust valve guides installed, as well as new seals, valves, springs, etc. …
Transmission & drivetrain
When I had the motor checked proactively the exhaust valve guides were outside of GM specifications. This defect can cause the head of a valve to snap off and destroy the engine. The engine will stop working immediately, causing the power steering and power brakes systems to fail. The valve failure can cause an oil spill onto the road if the engine is compromised. There have been numerous documented cases of engine failure as a result of a dropped valve into a cylinder. This can cause a catastrophic accident or fire. GM is very aware of this issue, but refuses to do anything about this huge safety risk to drivers, passengers, and nearby vehicles if the engine fails going down the road. I was forced to spend in excess of $3K to insure I did not harm anyone or myself. Best regards
Vehicle is always stationary when it gets stuck in park, and unable to shift into gear. I let it set for a few minutes then push start again. Sometimes it will shift into gear and other times it will not. 50/50 chance one way or the other. This has happened several times since I inherited this vehicle from my father in early 2017 with 48,000 miles on it. Fast forward to today 03/09/2018 vehicle does not go into park but is "stuck" in neutral, does not go into park or any other gear.
Stability & traction control
As I was driving on the highway my car started to swerve left then right, resulting a total wipeout. I was driving at safe speed and with control. The "service active handling' warning came up after I took control of the car on the side of the hightway.
2007 Chevrolet Corvette Z06." service active handling" message appears on instrument cluster at random intervals. Sometimes message precedes an application of one or both front brakes while vehicle is in motion causing a very dangerous driving scenario. The vehicle has only 3800 miles and has been returned to the dealership (lone star Chevrolet..houston, texas) one before for a fix. A sleeve was installed in the steering column as per a GM directive. The problem returned within 500 miles of driving. I have asked the service department to remove the active handling from the cars computer and they say they cannot. The vehicle is unsafe to operate with this issue if the brakes are applied. I have discussed this issue with numerous other Corvette owners (online at the Corvette forum) who have also experienced this same issue and only a few have had the problem finally corrected. …
