There was a wreck up ahead, and two tow trucks with their emergency lights flashing were blocking the left two lanes. Traffic was stop-and-go due to the existing wreck. I was traveling in the lane to the right of the tow trucks as I approached. I stopped about 1-2 car lengths behind them. When traffic started to move, I began to move forward and advanced about a car length when the automatic emergency braking (AEB) activated and slammed on the brakes, even though the path in front of me was clear. The person behind me rear-ended me. Luckily, no one was physically hurt, but there is damage to our car that now has to be repaired, along with all the headache that brings. If this had happened at higher speeds, it could have resulted in serious injuries. My family's safety and the safety of others are definitely at risk because of this phantom braking. …
The emergency brakes engaging in reverse and while in drive. Not available for inspection as the vehicle is now totaled. It was involved in a rollover accident. I believe the emergency brakes caused the rollover. If the rollover was in fact due to the emergency brakes engaging, the accident could have happened on the highway, or a busier street putting several lives in danger. Thankfully, there were no other vehicles involved. The dealership as well as GM were notified of the issue. The dealership was unable to reproduce the issue, and returned the vehicle backed to us. Upon researching online, this is a known issue for the Blazer EVs. After the accident, the vehicle was towed as it was not drivable. The vehicle was then picked up by my insurance company, Progressive, and evaluated if the vehicle was repairable. It is not. The emergency brakes engaged previously to this event. …
