Pin holes in steel brake lines causing complete brake failure. Fortunately vehicle was sitting when brake petal was applied for starting. When pressing brake to start vehicle, petal went completely to floor. When checking under vehicle to analyze problem, pin holes leaks were observed in various places from front to rear in steel lines. I fear what May have happened had the vehicle been in motion, around pedestrians, and/or, on the road.
I just got home & was backing around to where I park when the brake pedal started vibrating. I did manage to park. The next day the vibrating stopped when a grating noise was made. Suddenly the brake pedal came way up. It does have some brakes but they are hard to depress. Suddenly my power steering is gone. There was no indication of problems with either beforehand. This van just passed inspection in mid-August, and has always been taken care of.
When applying brakes on dry pavement pedal went to the floor, causing extended stopping distance, and resulting in a collision. Upon impact, air bags did not deploy, and the driver's seat belt did not lock up. Please give any further details.
Driver rearend vehicle in front with a 35mph - 40 MPH impact due to brake failure. Upon impact, dual airbags did not deploy, and driver's seatbelt did not lock up, causing loss of protection and injuries.
For a car that is only four years old, this one has far too many equipment failures. I would imagine that this car would be considered a lemon by most people. When we first got it the brakes would slow you down and at 10 MPH as you were approaching the stop or the rear end of another car, they would fail to stop you completely. The dealer who sold us the car agreed to fix that. Next the front end started shaking so violently it would throw the cups out of the holders in the front of the van. We took the car to our local Chevy dealership and they said they fixed them. Only 10,000 miles later we had to take it back in to have the rotors turned again as they were warped again. They unjustly accused me of riding the brakes, which I do not do. This time they replaced the brake pads on the front disc brakes. I requested that they do that the first time and the refused to do so. …
On aug 26 2000 I had front disc brake pads replaced and in checking the master cylinder it was discovered that the brake fluid was contaminated I brought the vehicle to the dealer mentioned and his service dept stated that this was done by someone who changed the oil dipped his finger inside with a little grease and contaminated the fluid it was also stated that the brake fluid contained algy also the brake fluid in the master cylinder was very low it seems that the service dept.finds ways and excuses when the vehicle is under warranty not to fix the problem but instead offers excuses for the problem this problem can be a very dangerous situation on the interstate highways it is my opinion that this should be investigated as this May not be the only complaint of this kind as further information the brake fluid was almost black in color all mechanics I have spoken to say this is not a …
During normal operation of vehicle, it sounds as if an explosion occurs in the front end of vehicle. This has occurred four times, and dealership replaced both front brake calipers twice. Also, found a short in the fuel pump. Has not examined vehicle for the last incident. Consumer states brake pedal is very soft and sometimes goes to the floor, the calipers break and cause a loud noise, consumer states braking power has been lost on three occasions. Vehicle stalled on one occasion. Consumer no longer drives this vehicle. Left side door lock inoperative, dealer replaced the actuator. Right side upper control arm bolts loose causing noise, left rear leaf spring u bolt mispositioned hitting axle tube, causing knocking noise.
ABS light is on, and when brakes are applied stopping distance is not normal. Dealer has been contacted. Consumer has had numerous repairs on vehicle, differential was overhauled, windshield wipers work intermittenly, fule injection system was repaired, ignition switch cylinder was replaced, as well as alternator, the entire ABS system has been rebuilt, consumer states rattle sound from front of engine drivebelt was replaced as well as tensioner, also fule/air filter was replaced. Automatic transmission was replaced. Front and rear shocks were replaced.
When stopping the truck it takes about 1 minute for the brake pedal to go down, and usually it goes all the way down to the floorboard of the truck and loses all of the braking power. Consumer states that ever since the power assist brakes were changed from vacuum to a hydraulic booster, the emergency brake is difficult to operate and weak, the vehicle can not be shifted to park until the engine is started and the rolling speed is sufficiently slow, and when stopped on a grede with the motor off, the foot operated brakes will fail.
We bought this van as a conversion van. We have been very unhappy with the perofrmance of the van. We have had the airconditing repaired twice. The battery failed many times. One time the alternator was replaced. There has always been a clonking noise when braking that the dealer can identify. The tires wore out just after they were a year old. The van has also been taken to the dealer for numerous other repairs.( dot number: )
