SUBJECT: Catastrophic Steering Failure and Erroneous Safety Recall Notification - 2014 BMW 335i 105,000 milles INCIDENT DESCRIPTION: While driving, the vehicle completely lost steering control. The electronic steering rack disengaged due to a failure in the aluminum mounting bolts. This incident resulted in a near-fatal accident in which the vehicle almost left the road and fell into a ravine. I have 360-degree camera video showing my steering wheel locking up and me struggling to survive. If you contact me, I can provide the video evidence. TECHNICAL BASIS: This failure matches the criteria described in BMW Technical Service Bulletin TSB 01 15 16 (and the previous NHTSA recall 14V-632), regarding corrosion and shearing of the aluminum bolts of the EPS (Electronic Power Steering) system. …
I was driving on the highway and the car was reading that it had gas, then suddenly it came to a stop, on the highway, the car was towed to the dealer, and it was found that the fuel level sensor had died making the car think it had gas when it in fact had none. The dealer wants to replace the entire tank for $2700, this issue is incredibly dangerous as it can leave anyone stranded anywhere. This car is only 6 years old and this issue can be found on bmws much older then that. BMW knows about the issue, they know it is dangerous and they choose to continue making cars with this is issue. As far as I can tell BMW does not care about the drivers of its cars and only cares about making money by selling death traps to people. If you want to be left stranded and risk getting killed on the highway or getting stranded in the middle of no where, by a BMW. If not, buy a merc or Audi. …
The car died without warning on highway. Lost control because of no power. Car was towed. no codes found. Car died again on highway, lost control no power to brakes and steering. Car was hit trying to got off into breakdown lane. High pressure fuel pump no good.
Fuel system leaks when full. It emits a strong odor both in the car and in the garage. Visible fuel leak on exterior of tank. This poses health, environmental, and safety concerns. This is, after internet searching, a fairly common issue.
Fuel sending unit has broken and began to expel fuel out upwards within the rear bottom of the back seat were the sending unit is located. The plastic that ensembles the gas sending unit itself cracks over a certain period amount of time and causes gasoline to spray in that area. Gas has began to accumulate outside the gas tank right above the sending unit part, which causes harmful and incredibly strong gasoline odor inside the car and outside the car, predominantly on the back seat of the driver area. Very dangerous for even a small amount of fire to be near it. The problem cause a harmful and overwhelming amount of dangerous gasoline fumes to tolerate breathing near that area or the car itself.
In 2017 my son was driving on the interstate 91 highway when his front driver tire rod broke off. Bolts were missing both driver and passenger sides. Tires went out and it could have caused a tragedy this happened on a Friday night. We paid to have the wheels and tires repaired and replaced. I provide the receipts to the BMW dealer ship but they were never honored or reimbursed. We paid to have waterpump replacement because. In July 2017 the air conditioning was blowing hot air. In nov. 2017 the heating system was blowing cold air. Feb 2018 blower was still not working, when I found out that there were (recalls). We waited almost 4 months for recalled blower was replaced, we paid for themostrate replacement but still had no heat. Car won't start. So we paid for the battery to be tested and registered. Shortly after the car started leaking coolant again April 2018. Defected water pump. …
On Tuesday February 2nd 2010 my brand new (only 3859 miles on it) BMW 335i coupe started experiencing difficulty starting up (then engine would just turn and turn). Upon starting up, the engine idled very roughly, as if only firing on partial cylinders. No engine warning lights were observed at this time. Eventually the engine seemed to start running smoothly. During driving of the car later on the "engine malfunction - reduced power" light appeared. When traveling at a low rate of speed (aprox. 20mph) the engine shut off and I was forced to coast to the side of the road. This problem repeated itself several times until I was forced to call tow service to pick the car up and take it to the dealer for repair. …
The contact owns a 2009 BMW 335I. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle independently entered limp mode with the service transmission warning message on the instrument panel. The contact restarted the vehicle and cleared all warning codes before he resumed normal driving. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not under recall. A DTC reader determined that the cause of the failure was related to a defective fuel pump. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
