What owners report
2009 TT roadster Audi engine caught fire while driving. The consumer stated he heard a pop in the engine compartment and immediately saw thick dark smoke coming from the front of the vehicle. He pulled over and within 30 seconds the engine area was engulfed in flames. In 30 minutes the vehicle was completely destroyed. The consumer suspected the battery coil pack failed.
Had issues with the rear taillights grounding issue causing the ground in the connector to melt and short out causing the taillight to no longer work. This was an issue first on the driver side then the other 6 months later. Both repaired locally by adding an additional ground wire and replacing the connectors.
The trunk release button does not always work. The driver's window sometimes does not close up when door is closed thereby causing the dashboard to show that the door is open and beeping occurs. I also had to have the release for the gas cap disconnected due to not being able to release gas cap.
I have a 2005 Audi TT quattro roadster, purchased new in 2005. Have had dashboard instrument cluster failure - twice - in 2 years! Fuel gauge fluctuations, coolant sensor malfunction (had to replace coolant sensor to the tune of over $400! Just two months ago), radio turns itself on after I've exited the vehicle, etc. First time instrument cluster replaced under warranty. Car now has 50,000 miles and out of warranty. Additionally, intermittent headlight failure. Idiot light comes on, left front headlight out. Turn off lights, 5 - 10 seconds, turn back on, everything is fine. This also happened about 2 years ago, but on the passenger side. Both times, shop replaced headlight. Now new wrinkle - when shifting gears (2nd, 3rd, 4th, and occasionally 5th) up, RPM's rev, engine revs and it seems to whir before catching gears. Only when shifting up, never down. What's up? …
The car was having electrical problems, appear related to instrument cluster failure. I scheduled with Audi to evaluate faulty gas gauge and radio staying on after key removed. Anyhow, before I could get it into Audi, the car while driving jerked violently and then would not shift gears. It was lucky I was not going very fast as I was on windy roads with cliffs. I could have been seriously injured or dead had the car lost control. There have been recalls on the dsg and clutch assembly for my model car, but they don't show up on my record with Audi. The car then would not engage gears for a few restarts, suddenly it was fine and would drive but I had it towed due to risk factors and uncertainty. I believe these are related events and they tell me I need a new transmission. This car has only 45K miles and I'm not sure it is a mechanical failure at tall. …
In November of 2010, I was driving in my 2004 1.8 Audi TT at approximately 45 miles per hour. Without warning, the car lost all power in the middle of the road. Fortunately, the car lost power at 1:00 am or I May have been easily hit/killed by the heavy flow of daytime traffic. As it turns out, there was an ignition coil recall on my vehicle. I never received notice of such recall and as a result, was put in danger by operating a vehicle with a known defect and suffered over two thousand dollars in related repair expense. The mechanic at Audi told me my fuel pump, coolant temp sensor, crank sensor and ignition coil needed to be replaced. He was quite surprised that the previous Audi dealership did not correct the recall during routine service. My vehicle was perfectly maintained, serviced by an Audi dealership and had approximately 32,000 miles. …
My 2003 Audi TT quattro has an intermittent headlight, have tried numerous times replacing the bulb as well as switch. After looking at numerous posts, it is clear that this is a huge fault by the manufacturer of headlight failure. In my state you get a ticket for a single light out (ny) and this headlight fails intermittently either when at 0mph or 60mph. Huge safety concern especially if driving at night or in the rain, on top of the traffic violations.
There is a very well-documented, widespread problem with the Audi TT dash panel, one that Audi has not sufficiently addressed. Failures include (1) a false or no vehicle speed indication (2) a false or no engine rotational speed indication (3) a false engine temperature indication (4) a false fuel level (5) complete deactivation of engine (6) improper status of safety features such as airbags, brakes, traction control, etc (7) improper or faulty indication of onboard computer functions and driver information displays. It is a shame that the us has not been able to affect a positive response from Audi regarding a safety recall of this known, chronic problem, whereas other countries, such as the uk, have successfully lobbied for action from Audi in the form of an unconditional safety recall. …
