What 2002 Audi TT owners say

Electrical system

The instrument cluster on my 2002 Audi TT roadster began to fail in August 2007. By the end of the summer, not one number on the panel could be read...it was in complete failure. Because of the failure I cannot drive my car at all because I would have no idea of how much gas I had nor would I know at what rate of speed I was traveling. There was a class action lawsuit on this issue which was settled this year and I received notification of it in April 2008...which, at the time of receipt placed my car outside of the six year limitation period...even though the car is a 2002 and the panel failed last year. I am being told that my car will not be repaired by Audi of America unless I pay the $1,300.00 charge to have it fixed. This is an Audi problem and they are trying to turn it into my problem. This is a very expensive car which is never driven in the snow and is a "garage queen". …

Tl contact owns a 2002 Audi TT. While driving at an unknown speed, the instrument panel lights faded out and the odometer and fuel gauge readings were inaccurate. After a few days, the instrument panel display was completely illegible. Also, the contact had to make several attempts to start the vehicle. Once it started, the vehicle would stall moments later. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they replaced the instrument cluster for free because it was under warranty. Currently, the vehicle is experiencing the same failures, but the vehicle is no longer under warranty. The contact would be responsible for the repair costs. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 4,267 and current mileage was 26,400. Updated 06/02/08 updated 06/02/08

Engine & cooling

One morning started up the engine on my Audi, and the engine sounded like it had rough idling, stuttering sound to it. I had took it for a test drive and experienced lack of power, hesitation in engine, rough idling, and then check engine light came on. Checked out the code. It came up to be (p0304) cylinder 4 misfire. I took it to a mechanic, and he replaced spark plugs, coil packs. The problem still existed. He had checked the compression. It was good. Check all wires, senors...ect. Anything he could think of and it all checked out good. Timing belt and water pump was replaced couple months before this problem existed. The problem only exists when the engine is cold. Once you warm up the engine, restart the car, and it drives perfectly fine! Engine cools down, and rough idling, lack of power and all the comes back again. The mechanic doesn't know what the problem could be.

Audi TT 2002 dash pod recalled in ireland and britain. Interference and erratic performance with instrument gauges and lights. I am having same problem and vehicle only has 30K miles. Can result in unexpected shut down on highway. Dealer says car computer does not indicate any problems and customer, me, ends up paying for each malfunctioning component as just "normal wear and tear".

Transmission & drivetrain

The clutch experienced failure while on the highway and wouldn't go into gear without being put into neutral first then into second gear . Then while driving one day I couldn't put it in reverse it's just gone so now the car will roll slightly even with the emergency brake on but I was put in danger the day it wouldn't shift gears as it should while on the highway leaving me pretty much in fast motion but unable to continue in gear as it should which caused me to have to drift to the side of the road to then experience the effect of it being in neutral to second to continue driving however the vehicle seems to be high reviving in all gears after this experience happened
