During normal operation on a public road, the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan suddenly began emitting smoke from the front of the vehicle. This occurred without any warning lights, messages, unusual smells, or symptoms beforehand. Within moments, flames became visible from under the hood. The occupants, including a child and an elderly family member, immediately exited the vehicle. The fire spread rapidly and resulted in a total loss. The fire department arrived and extinguished the flames, and both fire and police reports were created documenting the incident. The vehicle was nearly new, with approximately 7,000 miles on it, no mechanical issues, and no prior maintenance warnings. Nothing unusual occurred during the drive, and the vehicle had been used under normal, paved-road conditions. On November 5, 2025, Volkswagen conducted an inspection at the IAA facility in Puyallup, WA. …

Shortly after purchase, the vehicle began experiencing ongoing mechanical and electrical issues that required multiple repair attempts. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for service on the following dates: November 29, 2024 December 2, 2024 December 16, 2024 December 23, 2024 January 6, 2025 In total, the vehicle was out of service for 21 days in December and 28 days in January. Despite repeated repair attempts, the issues were not resolved. Due to the excessive time out of service and repeated unsuccessful repairs, I submitted a request for Volkswagen to repurchase the vehicle. This request was denied. The vehicle was returned to me on February 1, 2025. On February 9, 2025, while parked in my driveway and not in operation, the vehicle caught fire. I was later informed that the fire originated in the dashboard and was electrical in nature. …

I am writing to formally express my deep concern and disappointment regarding the sudden failure of my Volkswagen Tiguan SE, a brand-new vehicle purchased just three months ago. While driving, the car abruptly stopped in the middle of the road, putting my entire family in grave danger. Fortunately, there was no vehicle immediately behind us, or this could have resulted in a serious accident. Safety Concerns: This incident raises serious questions about the reliability of this vehicle model and whether such a failure should ever occur in a brand-new car. A sudden breakdown in traffic is unacceptable, and I strongly condemn the presence of such cars on the road if they pose safety risks. …

The vehicle experienced a sudden, total loss of motive power while driving on active roads on two separate occasions (10/06/2026 and 10/18/2026). The vehicle completely shuts off without throwing any preliminary dashboard warnings, battery lights, or error messages. Once shut down, the ignition will not turn over and the engine refuses to start. The vehicle can only be temporarily revived via an external jumpstart, indicating that the engine is draining the battery entirely while in motion because the alternator or smart battery charging module is defective. During the second incident on 10/18/2026, the vehicle stalled in the middle of a busy traffic intersection while stopping at a red light. My spouse and infant child were trapped in the vehicle for over two hours in an extremely high-risk crash zone before roadside help could arrive to jumpstart the vehicle. …

The infotainment system no longer works after an over the air update. The backup camera is including all other cameras are no longer visible . Before it completely just stopped working When attempting to back out the infotainment system would freeze and not signal something was back there . The digitally dynamic road display is not working so car ACC is not operable . Additionally since the blackout the windshield wipers randomly turn on even if not raining causing distraction and obstructed visibility at times Problem has been confirmed by independent VW dealers in several states (there is a whole Facebook VW owners group where several people are reporting the same issue) there are also known topics related to these issues on VWs help center page regarding OTA updates and infotainment system issues It gives instructions on how to troubleshoot but then says see your local dealer if that …

So we took it into Volkswagen in Texarkana Texas. They had the car for an entire week. They said they updated something. The first day we got it back. My daughter drove it and the lane assist turned off. The dealership told us it's a known issue and then it happens when it's in the sun well, this was at night at eight something p.m. I'm attaching a photo. If this is a known issue because we called another dealership in another town there might need to be a recall, issued or figure out what the problem is or maybe this is just a lemon, but I want to keep documenting it because I keep taking it in and it's not being fixed. What would you suggest we do next?

The infotainment center freezes and spontaneously disconnects. At first, I though it was my phone and switched carriers. It was not. It also does not recognize my key is present and I have to pshycially lock and unlock it. Sometimes the doors won't open and it happens several times. It is unsafe when I am driving and the gps goes out and I have been distracted, missed turns and put myself and others in danger. Also, you can only get gas if the doors are unlocked. This is not safe becasuse someone could take your purse or child while you are pumping gas. The vehicle has been updated, keys replaced but nothing has helped the issue. There were no warning lights.

Jul 2024

My entire infotainment system went black and a warning about the SOS system failing came up on the dash. My back up camera does not work, the SOS system does not work, radio, charger, etc. I called VW Customer Care who sent me to the dealership. Dealer said they tried the TB 91-26-04 (2082628) software protocol from Volkswagen and had no success. They need part J794 to complete the repair. The part is on back order with no ETA of when it will arrive. Dealership gave me back the car with compromised safety features (now federally mandated). I'm a lessee under warranty. I'm also nervous that other parts of the car could also have electrical or systemic failure.
