Takata recall. Recall notice was received in January 2017 for passenger airbag. The recall directed that the passenger seat not be used. When calling Toyota to ask about a tentative time frame for a remedy a Toyota representative informed me that a remedy will not be available until about September 2017. I appreciate that this is a massive recall across the country. However, I am a one car owner and regularly need to use of the passenger seat. I have no recourse but to use the car. I am a volunteer worker and cannot afford a rental for a week, let alone 6 months. How am I to drive safely in this circumstance? What happens if the airbag deploys due to an accident because I had no choice but to use the passenger seat? The Toyota representative informed me that loaner vehicles are not being provided with this recall. …

Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture

NHTSA investigation EA21002 · opened Sep 17, 2021 · open

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited.
