Service air bag notice displayed, red air bad warning idiot light on and the passenger air bag indicator light shows off even though a passenger was in the seat. Tried powering the car off and on with same result. This is a major safety issue is the passenger is not protected while riding in the vehicle. I have since read that many reports of the same issue have been reported and no safety recalls have been issued.
My Solstice is part of the ignition recall. Passenger air bag sensor light has been on since aug. 2014. Ignition replaced today 10/8/14. Dealership says that I have a faulty airbag sensor in the passenger seat and that neither side airbag will deploy should I have an accident. First I'm told it will cost me $800 to replace. My response was that I would be contacting GMC about this. Then I'm told to hold off that they would put their "GMC calculator" on it and let me know what GMC says. A few minutes later I get a call saying that GMC would cover $500 of the $800 charge. My complaint is that the faulty ignition has a direct affect on the proper operation of the airbags. This car is only 5 years old. In 2010 I had to have the ignition replaced "while it was still under warranty" because the car wouldn't turn off after turning the ignition to off. …
There is an issue with all Saturn Sky's and Pontiac Solstice's that cause the wiring harness for the A/C FAN to melt, or even ignite. This is the same harness that was used on 2006-2010 Hummer H3 vehicles manufactured February 5, 2005, to May 24, 2010, and 2009-2010 Hummer H3T vehicles manufactured May 21, 2008, to May 24, 2010. This recall was never extended to Pontiac or Saturn. - If the blower motor connector module overheats, it can increase the risk of a fire. I've seen several reports of other owners dealing with this melted harness, and even a recently reported fire.
Tire pressure monitoring. This spring I took my car out of storage and reconnected the battery. I first noticed the remote entry fobs no longer would lock or unlock the doors. I started the vehicle and found the tire pressure information was not available on the dash on 8/10/17, I took my Solstice to the Chevrolet dealer in omak wa to have them troubleshoot the tire pressure monitoring system. A quick review by a technician told me that the remote entry needed to be reprogrammed. After personal research I found that this is a common issue to this year and several other models. GM wrote a technical service bulletin, 08-03-16-001b on July 31, 2008, acknowledging the issue of bad firmware but HID the information from their customers regarding this key safety system. …
The contact owns a 2007 Pontiac Solstice. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 14V047000 (AIR BAGS, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), 14V171000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) and 17V061000 (AIR BAGS); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The contact verified that the key could be removed while the ignition was not in the "OFF" position. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times over the years, but the contact was informed that the parts were not available for the recall repairs. Recently, the dealer informed the contact that the parts would not be available, and the recall repairs would never be performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
The blower fan did not come on when I tried to use it with the air conditioning. I smelled a burning smell, and turned the fan to the off position. Fortunately, I was in the driveway at the time of attempting to turn on the fan. Upon having it inspected and removed, it had an obvious burned area. When I investigated the part number, it was apparent that there was a recall on the same part for hummers and Chevy canyon and colorados. There was no recall or information regarding the same part for the Solstice. The part number is obsolete now because of the redesign of the part from known fire danger of the part. I find this highly negligent of GM to not make this a mandatory recall/or free repair and replacement. The liability associated with this safety issue concerns me greatly, since a fire with this part has been a problem. …
I purchased a 2006 Pontiac Solstice from a Lexus dealership in 2020. No known issues were discussed when I purchased the vehicle. The ignition switch turned off while I was driving around a curve which caused engine to stall, and my steering wheel to locked up preventing me from turning. I crashed into a guardrail at 60 mph and my car spun, hitting the back as well. The car is totaled. My airbag did NOT deploy in the crash, resulting in worsened injuries. Thankfully no other cars were involved, but the faulty ignition switch put my safety at risk. The car is available for inspection, and is currently in the hands of my insurance agency who has inspected and totaled it. I did not drive much, and had not experienced this issue prior with my car.
The electric system appears to be unsafe, the ignition doesn't turn over and drains the battery every day. I'm also worried about the airbags and other recalls on this car. I contacted the dealer "Dave Kirk Automotive" in Crossville, TN weeks ago. They took the vin # and looked up the recalls. This was a month ago. They said they would get the parts and call me. No one at the dealer has contacted me again. They know there are serious recalls on this vehicle. I need help on this. I'm 74, the car only has 39000 miles on it. This needs to be fixed at once.
