The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the message "Passenger Air Bag Off" remained displayed even though there was a passenger seated in the front passenger's seat. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the front passenger's seat occupant sensor unit had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V521000 (Air Bags, Electrical System). The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
The driver side door airbag did not deploy after major side impact by a box truck that never engaged the braking system. The Altima under went a safety inspection approximately 30 days prior to the accident. There were no warning lights on the vehicle. The vehicle has been inspected by the NJ State Police, involved Insurance companies and outside engineers. The driver ,my son, of the Altima, was fatally injured due to head trauma. We are unable to load the final police report to the upload link through this form. We can provide the pdf report in a separate cover as needed.
Sunday 10\25\15 my daughter was driving on 118 in ventura county at 5 am. A large animal ran in front of the car, she swerved and hit some construction sign/sandbags. She lost control spun across road, May have flipped and ended up in a deep ditch. All airbags deployed but the front passenger side. This air bag has had sensor problems before and was replaced during a recall because I insisted. I was told it was fixed, the young lady who received a concussion yesterday doesn't agree. The car was totalled and all other airbags deployed but the one that had issues?
After being involved in a 3-car accident on the nj turnpike at 3:15p.m. The air bags did not deploy, everyone was wearing seat belts, yet no one was hurt, not even a whip lash. The left side sustained headlight and hood damage, drivers door would not open and it appeared that the radiator was busted since liquid was pouring out. We were towed to the nearest collision place and geico towed it from there to its own shop. Since the car was so new, geico had some difficulty in obtaining part numbers and cost. The next call from geico was to tell us that the car was totaled. The battery exploded. Battery acid eating most of the components under the hood. Question which was defective.. The air bags the electrical system or the battery why would a battery explode when the car did not have enough impact to deploy the air bags?

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bag sensor needed to be reset. The sensor was reset, but the failure recurred after the repair. The vehicle was taken to the dealer a second time. The technician stated that the passenger side seat cushion and air bag sensor would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 08V521000 (air bags, electrical system). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 71,300.
Took it to Nissan dealership. Air bag light flashing. They found passenger side occupant control unit sensor failure. They said I needed to replace passenger seat cushion at a cost of $2123.88. Also, the light on the dashboard reads 'passenger air bag off 2 ' when a adult is setting in passenger seat and won't go off. I contacted Nissan corp. And they told me this wasn't covered by recall. This is a safety issue for me and my family and Nissan needs to correct this issue immediately. I look forward to your response in this matter. I wasn't notified about any recall during the time I had this car. I purchased this car new.
Passenger side airbag turns off with adult in the seat. If adult moves around the warning light goes out but returns within minutes. Although Nissan is fully aware of this problem with a variety of Altima model years they ignore my safety complaint. The factory says see the dealership service. If the service dept verifies the problem have them contact us. The service dept says call the factory. Service dept says inspection is my responsibility and could cost $200 or more. This seems to happen when the vehicle is in motion but I have not monitored it when parked. Cannot 100% say it is only when in motion.
Tl* the contact owned a 2007 Nissan Altima. While driving 35 MPH, the contact crashed into another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained injuries to the upper back, vertebrae, and shoulder. Medical attention was not received. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the air bags did not always deploy upon impact. No further assistance was offered. The dealer was not contacted. The cause of the failure was not determined.
Takata recall: we were driving in a neighborhood at less than 10 MPH (we were looking at houses). Out of nowhere my airbags blew. We did not hit anything and we looked around to see if something hit us and there was nothing. There was also no external damage to my car. No one was hurt since there was no momentum, however, Nissan will not take responsibility and they refuse to send me the report. I have left numerous messages with rep. Dehenry kidd [phone] /case number 29409439).I was also told there was no escalation process.
