Takata recall: received safety recall notice dated July 2016 re: front passenger air bag inflator, and, as instructed, contacted Mitsubishi customer relations dept. To confirm my contact information and to find out when replacement part would be available. In September, called again and mmna had no projection as to time frame for parts availability. Since I am the primary driver, and rarely have passengers, the delays were tolerable. But since my wife and I are planning an approx.,1,500 mile trip to florida thanksgiving week, 11/19 to 11/26, I asked if the air bag in question could be disabled until parts are available, so that, if we encountered an accident, the front passenger would not be injured. After the customer relations representative put me on an almost interminable hold, the rep. …

Takata recall. I received a "important safety recall" regarding the front passenger air bag inflator on my 2007 Raider. The notice, dated July 2016, says that the parts needed to correct the issue are not yet available and that I will be contacted when they become available. I spoke to Mitsubishi customer relations this afternoon and was told that they did not have a date when the needed repair parts would be available. I asked what they would suggest that I do with the Raider while I waited on the replace parts. The representative told me that I could drive the truck, but not to let anyone sit in the front passengers seat. I would think that three months would be time enough to obtain the parts, but I was wrong. What can you do to escalate the availability of the replace part(s) and the repair of my truck? …
Hi- We have been trying to get our Mitsubishi Raider 2006 recall for an exploding sharp metal pieces that can cause death fixed with zero help. We have been without a car for over one year due to being ignored by Mitsubishi Corporate and our closest Mitsubishi Cutter Dealership. We live on an island in Hawaii that does not have a dealership so car must be shipped to Oahu to be repaired. Talked to manager at Cutter Mitsubishi many times and she said it's Mitsubishis problem to figure out. Mitsubishi Corporate has been contacted at least 4 times with nobody contacting me back. Case worker [redacted] has completely ignored my case. Called recall number and have filed 5 cases now with no response. I will have to file a lawsuit to get help. Can someone please call [redacted] @ [redacted]
Vehicle was involved in an serious offset head on crash with a full size Chevrolet silverado. The side apron air bag failed to deploy on both sides. Both vehicles were traveling straight on a two lane rural road with a speed limit of 45mph. Don't know actual vehicle speeds. Chevrolet veered into the opposite lane and struck the Mitsubishi Raider xls traveling in the opposite direction. I believe the failure of the driver side curtain airbag contributed to the seriousness of the Mitsubishi drivers injuries.

Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited.
