I have a 2003 Mercury Sable with 19K miles on it. We had heavy rains Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning, followed by sub freezing temperatures throughout Wednesday into Thursday. Thursday morning, (12-10-09) the blower motor for the heating/ac system would only work on it's highest setting, and continues to do so. A few times throughout the last couple of weeks, my wife and I thought we heard water rushing around somewhere in the vicinity of the passenger side area. I read over 150 complaints on topix.com for the very same problem with several different model years of both sables and taurus'. It was recommended by several folks that people with the same issues should file a complaint here. It seems that the problem with the blower motor/resistor assembly is caused by water entering the blower housing itself. …
On a 2003 Mercury Sable the blower motor quit working. For several months prior to the failure, water could be heard sloshing around under the dashboard and the carpeting became wet. The fan motor and resistor had to be replaced because of water damage. The mechanic who repaired it told me that this is a common problem and that Ford is aware of it. The fan motor literally sits in a puddle of water. Fortunately there was no sparking which could have LED to a fire. It cost over $300 to repair. Ford motor co. Is aware of this design defect and should pay for the repairs.
We have a lot of humidity here where I live, and I needed to use the defrost mode on my 2002 Mercury Sable with 41K miles, but I wasn't able to get warm air to come out. I tried a few different days before I reported it to my dealer for service. When I took it in, the mechanic replaced the thermostat and gasket and the blend air door motor. It cost me $237. I tried it the next morning--no defrost. They had to order another motor.
Dt: the contact stated defrosted blower motor malfunctioned. While driving the blower stopped working and will not work to defrost the windows. The vehicle was taken to a certified dealership for inspection twice. However, no repairs were made by the dealer because of the excessive cost. She made one temporary repair. Currently, she ordered the part and was waiting for its arrival so she could repair the problem herself.
Tl*- the contact owns a 2001 Mercury Sable with an odometer reading of 71750 miles. The vehicle was leaking coolant at the tubes to the heater core. The front brake pads were very thin. Updated 04/12/07.
First the front passenger side leaked water during rain storms. I had that fixed last fall. Now the A/C blower motor needs replacement, and it was told to me that these two repairs are related. The cost for the 2001, Sable is $2500 in repairs. Ford needs to fix this problem. Recall #03V087000 and other complaint #10184014.
