What 2007 Mercury Mariner Hybrid owners say
Engine & cooling
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 Mercury Mariner Hybrid. While driving approximately 60 MPH, the engine stalled and the instrument panel displayed a triangle with an exclamation point. The panel displayed that the driver needed to pull over immediately. The contact pulled over and the ignition had to be turned to the off position for a few minutes in order for the vehicle to restart. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the motor electronic coolant pump failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was no longer included in NHTSA campaign number: 14V526000 (electrical system). The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
I was driving my '07 Mariner Hybrid on the nj turnpike at freeway speeds when the red triangle & message "stop safely now" appeared on the dash. The propulsion system stopped and I was able to navigate off to the shoulder and bring the vehicle to a safe stop. Having an immediate loss of power while traveling on the turnpike was very scary and I felt unsafe knowing that I didn't have any options but to exit the freeway immediately. This could have resulted in an accident. After letting the system sit for about 20-minutes I started the vehicle and resumed my travel. Same error message and loss of propulsion happened again, and this time I navigated the Hybrid to a Ford dealer in nj. It's very scary to be traveling at highway speeds and then a second later not have any propulsion. …
Brakes
I was traveling with my 15 month old son driving roughly 45 miles an hour on a multilane street when the ABS light (orange) and a exclamation point light (red) turned on and my digital read out said service brakes. I would estimate that I lost 75% of my braking power. Due to the lack of stopping power I had to swerve onto a shoulder to avoid colliding with the car in front of me as my car gradually slowed down. I ended up in a turn lane which thankfully was clear at the time. I would estimate that my car required and extra 5 to 6 vehicle lengths to stop. Had the turning lane been occupied a significant collision would had ensued. Very frightening especially with my son in the car! I am very upset to see that there exists a technical service bulletin on the defective and dangerous hydraulic control unit. There needs to be a recall to fix this.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 Mercury Mariner Hybrid. While driving approximately 60 MPH, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard before the vehicle stopped. The anti-lock brake system and the brake indicators illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred five other times intermittently. Once the vehicle was turned off and restarted, the failure would stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (ed whittmeier Ford in chico, california) for diagnostic testing, but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000. Consumer stated brakes fail intermittently when they fail the ABS and brake light on the dash are lit up. Updated 7/31/18
Fuel & propulsion system
The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the engine started to overheat, after which the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway to let the engine cool down. After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality; however, the failure had since become a regular occurrence. The engine overheated warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V526000 (Hybrid Propulsion System) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 247,000.
