The contact owns a 2008 Infiniti G37. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the air bag warning light flashed intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the Occupant Classification System (OCS) varistor in the front passenger seat had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The contact related the failure to the Manufacturer Recall Number: P8243. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure; however, no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

The airbag control module can be damaged through normal use. Simply disconnecting the battery can damage the module, which then causes the airbag malfunction light on the instrument cluster to turn on. It is unclear weather or not the airbag will function when this occurs. Presumably, it will not. The dealer solution for this is to replace the module, at a cost of over $1000. Fortunately, it is possible to remove the module and send it to a 3rd party who can reflash a chip. However, doing this every time a random electrical glitch (common ) causes the warning system to trip is dangerous.

Three times in the past 4 years, the air bag warning light was triggered when the battery was either disconnected/reconnected or jump started. Each time to re-activate the airbag safety system, I had to send out the air bag control module to have it reset. It is not expensive to do that , but it does mean one has to disassemble the center console, remove airbag control module and send it out to be reset. Additionally, during the time that the airbag light is on, my understanding is that the SRS is deactivated, which is obviously a safety hazard.

According to Campaign P8243, Ref ITB08-045e, NTHTSA # 08-521, my 2008 Infiniti G37 has a warning blinking light for the passenger airbag. I contacted the National Consumer Affairs Dept of Infiniti and they said that my vin # did not indicate it has a recall. I was quoted $5000 to replace the seat by other mechanical shops, but my vehicle is not worth that anymore. Please advise. Thank you.

Around 6 am on 4/13/19 me and my family and neighbors were awoken by an explosion in the front end of my vehicle..we called the fire dept and they ruled it as an electrical problem..I noticed that all the sensor lights in the dash would blink and the airbag sensor light was going off that evening prior to the incident..I didnt think much of it..I was planning on taking it to a mechanic that morning but it caught on fire..its a total loss.the fire fighters had to cut the hood open in half to get to the fire in the engine compartment..its not fair..I had just bought that car..and I loved my infinity..luckily I wasnt injured or anyone else. The vehicle was parked in the street..I need my car for work , school and on a regular basis. Please help me.

On the approx. Date of incident, I started the vehicle in the morning and noticed the air bag light would blink and not turn off. After referencing the manual, I brought the vehicle into an Infiniti dealership to be diagnosed. The diagnosis was that the passenger side airbag sensor had failed and would cost more than $2,700 to replace. I left without replacing the part. I notice this exact item has already been recalled for this exact make/model/year vehicle, but the manufacturer has told me that the recall was not for my specific VIN. This recall should be expanded to include all 2008 Infiniti G37 vehicles.....updated 10/01/15

The passenger airbag light is flashing. There was a past recall on this make, model and year for the very same issue. I have been told that my vehicle with less than 50K miles was not on the recall list. This is a safety issue which will be very expensive to repair and should be taken care of by Infiniti as part of their recall. I do not understanding why this same issue does not include my VIN number but was applicable to other same make, model and year cars as mine. Are there any other avenues I can pursue to fight this?

Air bag sensor suddenly come on. It cost $500 to diagnose that it was "probably" the sensor of the passenger seat. Cost to repair estimated at $5000. I see that this is a more common problem than Nissan admits. It should be recalled as others have. Not sure why it hasn't been. The car is worth less than $10,000. So I'm driving it in an unsafe condition but have no other choice financially. VIN not available
