What 2008 Infiniti EX35 owners say
Steering
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 Infiniti EX35. While operating the vehicle, the steering wheel electronic tilt malfunctioned and the driver was unable to properly re-position the steering wheel. In addition, while turning the steering wheel in either direction, the steering wheel exhibited excessive play. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the steering wheel tilt motor was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15V054000 (steering). The contact indicated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 68,000.
I was pulling into my garage traveling at low speeds when the steering wheel pulled out nearly separating from the steering column. Ball bearings fell from the steering column and the clock spring cable unraveled. This caused the stability control to kick on and turn the car violently towards the curb. I was able to park the car safely. I contacted the local Infiniti dealer, but as I am located overseas in Korea, the dealership refused to work on a us spec car. I checked with two other nearby dealerships and both said they refused to work on us spec infinitis. I was forced to order parts online and tow the car to a local repair shop to have the repairs completed.
Air bags
Tl* the contact owned a 2008 Infiniti EX35. While driving at approximately 15 MPH and turning left, another vehicle failed to stop at a red traffic light and crashed into the front passenger side of the contact's vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contain sustained an injury, but did not require medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000. Updated 10/19/15
Had just paid for parking garage at booth- gate opened and as I began to move forward hit curb with front drivers side wheel- airbag deployed and hit me with stunning force (lacerations on forehead- hand and forehead bleeding - black and blue eyes later). The overall length of curb starting from gate was only 4 feet( I went back and measured later) at the end of curb was a 2 ft high concrete block. There was zero damage to my bumper and obviously had not accelerated since I had less than 4 ft to do so and was pulling out from a stopped position. Called Infiniti where I got my car- said they had never heard of such a thing- never got any answers and the airbag recall doesn't apply to my VIN according to my research. Filed a claim with my insurance as airbag replacement very expensive and it fried my electrical.
Engine & cooling
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 Infiniti EX35. While the vehicle was parked, after being driven approximately 45 minutes earlier the contact noticed a burning odor in the cabin. A cloud of smoke also appeared. The contact took the vehicle to two mechanics and the dealer where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness and body control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer stated that due to no recall and warranty expiration, they were unable to provide a repair. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 167,214. Updated 04/19/17 updated 7/6/18
The engine repeatedly stalls driving at low speeds or while braking. This has happened dozens of times, including while driving through parking lots, braking during rush hour traffic on city streets and freeway off ramps as well as braking on a left turn through a traffic light on a highway, almost causing me to get rear ended multiple times. This problem is identical to problems that precipitated a recall of other inifiniti models, same model year, however the EX35 was not included in the recall. Car has been taken to the dealer who cannot identify the problem.
