Mileage when the problem started
Owner reports
Selected complaints filed with NHTSA by 2013 Honda CR-V owners, lightly cleaned up (personal details are redacted by NHTSA).
This honda cr-v had a sudden surge of acceleration while the brake pedal was pressed. The brake pedal was stepped off to put car into drive, but then the car suddenly went forward over 30 mph and crashed into a fence and tree in the driveway straight across from it about 5 feet away. The airbag did not immediately deploy, but deployed a minute later. The entire front end of the car was destroyed. The driver tried to press the brake, shift into neutral and even turn the key of the car off to shut it off but none of those worked. This car was purchased at carmax in May 2025 and had no issues per them. There were no warning lights on the car prior to this.
1. Left rear lower control arm 2. Where the lower control arm attaches to the body rusted thru and failed 3. It has been inspected by me the owner and it's obvious the bracket is gone 4. I see no reason to tow the vehicle to be inspected adding cost to this problem 5. No warnings just lower control arm dropped when bracket collapsed causing tire to drop I see recalls for other year Honda crv Just not 2013. Please let me know why? Thank you,
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 Honda CR-v. After making a right turn in a parking garage, the vehicle accelerated and crashed into a wall. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 34,000.
I had left my office about 10 minutes prior to pulling into a shopping center and was driving about 5 MPH in the parking lot, looking for a parking space. I saw one and slowed down even more to barely moving, and was easing into the parking space with my right foot on the brake. Just as the car stopped and I was getting ready to put it into park, the engine suddenly revved up and the car jumped the curb and hit a tree about 5 feet in front of the parking space at full force. It was like the accelerator had been pressed all the way to the floor. I was totally stunned. The entire front of the car was smashed in and radiator fluid was coming out of the bottom of the car. When this incident occurred, I was not talking on the phone; I was not drinking or eating anything in the car; I did not even have the radio turned on. …
I purchased a certified 2013 Honda crv 2 months ago. I experienced problems with acceleration and cruise control immediately. I took the car to the dealer for service but he said the techinician tested and found no issues. Since then I have recorded that the problem consistently occurs at highway speeds above 50mph. When I initially try to accelerate from about 50mph to 60, the car barely moves. It feels as if I'm not pressing the accelerator hard enough. The computer has delayed reaction and finally decides to accelerate. The car lunges ahead and accelerates too fast. This is a dangerous response. Its a good thing I'm usually on open road when this happens. The same problem happens with the cruise control. I increase the cruise control to go faster, but it doesn't change for several seconds. Then suddenly it kicks in. …
Correct recall on some crv - if the gear selector is moved from the park position without pressing the brake pedal it can allow the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash. Accident I stopped my car thought I put it in park and left it running to put up a garage sale sign. The next thing I know my car was driving away by itself like someone jumped in the car. I was out of the car and about 10 feet behind the car when the car started to move. The car was not on a hill but just started going. There was no way I could stop it and thank god it hit a mailbox that was in a tub of cement which stopped the car. If it did not hit this it could of keep going and hit someone else or someone on the main road route 46 in mine hill. I am afraid to even drive it when I get it back. This is a leased car and I can't even believe I had to have this happen. Of course I got a ticket. …
Unintended acceleration. I pulled into my son's driveway. When I applied the brake the vehicle accelerated. It was heading towards the house and continued to accelerate as I increased pressure on the brake. I swerved onto their lawn; eventually major force on the brake brought the vehicle to a stop. I checked the floor mat; it was attached firmly to the floor. I am sure I was on the right pedal; I felt the brake and throttle "fighting" each other. It's the car stopped and in park I tried to see if my foot could depress both pedals simultaneously. That did not seem possible. The initial evaluation at the dealer did not reveal the cause of the problem
At a 10 MPH coast I start to accelerate slowly and the engine feels like it will stall. The car does not accelerate, the RPM does not change with movement of the accelerator pedal. I have to rock the pedal two to three times to get the engine to respond and accelerate with the traffic. This is a continuing problem that the dealer on 2 occasions has been unable to detect and correct I have come close to being hit from the rear twice. The Honda dealer's explanation is the transmission is waiting for the computer to tell it to " up or downshift. " if that were the case, the RPM would change when the accelerator pedal is pressed . .
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 Honda CR-v. The contact stated that while parking, the vehicle accelerated independently and crashed into a cement parking chock and then into the vehicle that was parked next to the parking chock. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where the contact was awaiting the results. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure and current mileage was 1,999.
While traveling in stop and go traffic, I was fully stopped with my foot on the brake peddle. Suddenly I heard & felt the engine of my car revving up. My car catapulted forward about 20 feet hitting the car in front of me. I applied more pressure on the brake peddle but could not stop the forward momentum of my car. Both cars sustained damage. The other driver was taken to the hospital in an ambulance because she complained of head, neck & back pain.
