Tl* the contact owns a 2007 Ford Focus equipped with dextero touring dtr1 tires, size: 195/4/60/r15 (na). While driving 70 MPH, the front driver's tire inadvertently exploded. As a result, the contact lost control, but was able to maneuver the vehicle to safety. The contact placed the temporary spare tire on the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a tire center, but was not diagnosed. The tire was replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist because there was no warranty or road hazard insurance purchased. The approximate vehicle failure mileage was 163,200 and the tire failure mileage was 163,000.
I've had to get the wheel bearings fixed 3 times. The electrical warning lights go off and on for example the engine light comes on and then goes off for no reason and the same with the airbag light. Also the sensor for the passenger seat that senses a person or a inanimate load is incorrect sometimes. And last, when I punch my excellorator to go on the freeway, it doesn't kick into overdrive every time. More times it doesn't than does.
On June 13, 2009, my husband, my 16 month old son and I were driving on i95 s from north carolina to south carolina when my rear left tire blew out. This sent us fish tailing across all lanes and finally when the back of my car spun around into the shoulder, the car flipped onto the driver side, then onto the top of the car, then finally landing back upright. Not during any time did the airbags deploy on any side of my car.
Front left tire blew causing to loose control of the car it went off road and slammed into a ditch. Front bumper and quarter panel damage, front axle broke, rims dented, suspension needs to be replaced to name a few. Almost 5000.00 in damage. Person jerked forward enough to have cuts in the chest/shoulder by the seat belt yet the airbag did not deploy.
While traveling east on interstate 10 in arizona, rear tire (drivers side) on a 2007 Ford Focus separated (18,000 miles on car and tires) car slide sideways into the right shoulder and flipped twice. Totaled car.
I noticed a vibration that seemed to increase over time of about 2 weeks. I took the vehicle into the dealer where they replaced a wheel bearing and recommended I replace the rear tires due to severe cupping. The tires are continental contacts with about 10,000 miles on them and should have lasted the next 5 years. I went to the tire shop where they told me that Ford focuses are known to have alignment problems and will destroy their tires prematurely. Researching the internet I found 47 such complaints over the years relating exactly to what I experienced. The problem is the rear suspension is cambered in too much at the top and Ford never made the suspension adjustable. Mine measured 1/4 inch difference between the top of the 15 inch rim compared to the bottom. This sits the car on the inside edge of the tire creating the premature wear. Ford must know this problem exists.
