I own a 2000 Ford f550 modified by fontaine modification company, louisville, ky to tow a fifth wheel trailer, gvr 15,900 lbs. This was a demo vehicle for fontaine and had 2598 miles on the odometer. It was delivered to me as a new vehicle with a 3 year 36,000 miles warranty on 9-29-2002. Prior to purchasing this vehicle, the dealer, cunningham campers had two blow outs on the right rear dual 225/70r-19.5/f general tires on 8-6-2002. Two more blow outs, (explosions) occurred in of June 2003, while the vehicle was parked. I replaced the general tires with Michelin tires. This vehicle was delivered without high pressure valve stems which I replaced with the high pressure valve stems after the second blowout. …
While pulling 17,000 lb. 5th wheel at 75 MPH or more a passerby honked his horn and pointed to the vehicle rear passenger dual tires. The consumer pulled over and found that the inside tire tread had completely separated from the sidewalls. The tire did not blow out, the valve stem was defective and all the air leaked out causing the tire to deflate and then separate, dealer replaced the defective rubber valve stems with steel stems. Two more rubber valve stems were leaking and dealer replaced with steel, consumer thinks the recall was not done properly, if it had been the stems would not have leaked again, NHTSA campaign id#01V046000, general tires, dot#cu9rhmtj0600, tire size# 225/70r 195 lmt400.
Valve stem failures on four tires while in transit. Three of the tires I have as evidence plus valve stem and photographs of tires. Tire #1 12,000 miles, #2 13,000 miles, #3 14,500 miles. I went for valve stem recall about 14-17 months prior to all tire failures at sayville Ford. I have all documentation, bills for road service repairs, etc. They told me the "zipper failure" on the sidewall is due to "uninflated tires not the faulty valve stems that failed". The last blowout is still on the rim which I will change soon being it is the spare tire. One tire was thrown out (discarded) by error. I would like to be reimbursed for the three tires that I kept for evidence, new valve stems (different type) and road service.
The tire experienced the same defect as stated in recall no. 01 v 046 000, however the vehicle identification number was not included in the recall. The valve cover had come out of the rim, it was loose, and leaked air. The tires lost all air and had run flat, causing them to be too dangerous to re-inflate. (broken down sidewalls) the dealer thought nothing was wrong with the valves. Scc
1. Traveling east on I-88 in ny. Load 6500 lbs. At 60 MPH. . Sudden loss of air in front left tire, was able to pull over to brake down lane without incident. . Road service replaced tire, could find no defects or punctures in flat. Was sugested valve stem safety margin to close to tire inflation. Rubber stem replaced with a metal one.
The vehicle was purchased with all terrain tires. The vehicle has been involved in two tire related accidents within a 2 year period. The consumer believes the tires installed are not all terrain tires. Ph
General tires were not all terrain which was supposed to be the tire equipment for the vehicle. Mr the tires inability to hold the road caused the consumer to lose control and hit a pole. Model/lt scc
Consumer received a recall notice from Ford regarding the tires, valve stem #10V046. Consumer was not present during the inspection of the vehicle. Consumer was informed by the dealer that it was up to Ford's specifications. In September the inside rear tire went flat. Consumer was pulling a trailer and didnt realize there was a flat. The tire side walls were destroyed. Because of the damage, there was no way to determine the cause. In July of 2002, two of the inside rear tires went flat simultaneously. Consumer was pulling a trailer at the time and had been checking the tires every 70 miles. Upon taking the tires to the local dealer, it was determined that the cause of failure was the valve stems. …
While towing 17,500 lb. Fifthwheel, consumer noticed broken valve stem on a continental general 225 / 70r 19.5 lmt 400 tire and no air in tire. First dealership would not repair stating that side wall of tire could be damaged. Consumer went to another dealer and had the valve repaired. Upon departing dealer, consumer notice another valve was missing. Consumer took vehicle back to original dealer and was under the impression that all four tires would be replaced. Instead, dealer repaired all 4 valve stems.
Recall campaign for Ford f550 trucks concerning the vale stems used on 19.5 inch tires. One of the vehicle's tires had to be replaced because the valve stem failed causing severe damage to the tires sidewall. On another occasion one of the dually wheel tire valve stems failed and caused the tire to go flat. The consumer replaced all four dually tire valve stems with the tread nut on top. The consumer request reimbursement.
