Vehicle speed control

NHTSA recall 97V-131 · Aug 19, 1997 · 410,000 vehicles

The cruise control and throttle cables are attached to the same throttle valve actuating lever at the throttle housing. It is possible that the plastic bushing on either cable could break due to environmental influences coupled with vibration. If the bushing breaks, the outer cable housing can separate from the bushing.

Remedy: Dealers will install a spring steel clip on the outer tube of each cable in the area of the adjusting screw and plastic bushing. The clip is designed to prevent the outer tube from dislodging from the bushing.

Vehicle in motion, passenger 's seat belt would lock up. Would retract, but not release. Worked on it for 5-10 minutes before moving. Took to dealer & informed mechanism needed replacing. Seat belt releasing or retracting still exists.

Dealer representative said this a common problem & requires replacement. When braking, the seat slides forward on the rails 1 to 2 inches. I am concerned that in a serious front end collision the seat May propel the driver and/or passenger forward and with a locked belt cause personal injuries to the occupants. Dealer was not willing to replace this defective part at their expense.
