Federal safety investigators have looked into a possible defect involving the 2013 BMW 640i:

Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture

NHTSA investigation EA21002 · opened Sep 17, 2021 · open

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited.

While accelerating from an on-ramp to a highway, an alert popped up: drivetrain malfunction: drive moderately..." the car lost power and I was nearly rear-ended and nearly caused a multiple car accident on the freeway. I was able to get the car to the side of the road during heavy traffic. I turned the car off, opened the hood and looked inside. Nothing seemed amiss. Restarted the car and the yellow alert was gone. Proceeded to get back on the highway and accelerated again and again the alert popped up and I lost power and again nearly caused an accident. This is a very dangerous malfunction that seems to be occurring with high frequency. Please look into this as government intervention May save lives.
